Quake II rocks! Used to play the ♥♥♥♥ out of it using Gamespy3D. I think Mplayer was dead by the time Q2 came around :(

to connect to a server hit the tilde key located below ESC key on keyboard. this will drop down in game console.
in the console type
connect 173.192.216.18:27915 and hit enter.

then u will connect.
some servers require you run anticheat.
i use r1q2.exe rather than quake2.exe and i have anticheat.dll in my quake2 folder.

Who here played Q2 back on MSN Gaming Zone? If so, those were some good memories too. I remember a clan that modded around the starwars genre lol. Was an epic jump+rail mod too.

Have to agree with everyone below me: Nothing beats Q2.

My question is: How do I play a server on quakeservers? They give me IP's (which of course, in game doesn't do squat), so am I missing something?

I was able to play a few games at http://www.voobly.com - but no one goes there or people don't know about it. I just want to play some good ol Q2 without any complications.

After all these years, I still keep this and it's various addons and mission packs installed. Still hostin' servers n' making maps too. :D

Hello there fellow Quake 2 players! I happened to come across this gem while in the thrift store one day (believe it or not, the disk didn't have a single scratch on it, amazingly) , and man did it bring back memories of some older (and newer) games. ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ fantastic game.

at tastyspleen.net there is still active jump mod servers.... they have a ton of servers and the community is still really active. a bunch of veterans that im sure will play forever.

Im looking for people who want to play quake 2 coop.There is this amazing mod call coop or die.Go to www.Coopordie.com to find out more(its really not hard to setup at all).This mod helps you play coop by useing a world server to help player connect. It saves your ammo, health and other stats and game progress when you log out of quake 2.It also has a challenge mode where you have to play the game without dieing once.I have done this Solo, but i want to do it in a team. @sssieck from the readme (mine is v1.02 (Net Pack edition)) quake2 +set game eraser +map <mapname> and from within the game, type "bot_num X" to spawn X number of bots.
Also if you want to play with bots in CTF copy pak0.pak from the CTF directory to Eraser.

@sssieck you need to download a mod like Eraser Bot to have bots in Quake 2
