ERR_GFX_D3D_INIT - yet another unfun error. Some have fixed with DDU/reinstall of drivers - either with updates/rollbacks of those drivers (straight "updates" don't always work, and work less when you layer them ontop of other issues). Others- have fixed by removing the OC or downclocking their gpu/cpu/memory. And some others have cured by removing/uninstalling other various software related to OC/overlays - like MSI, riva/etc. Also personally dealt with 2 that appeared to be temperature related. One changed the fan curve for better cooling, the other turned vsync on instead to cap fps from 110+ to 60. Both ran fine after. Others claimed fixed after changing the ingame DX setting, others - using win7 compatability on the .exe's. deleting/reverifying d3d files from gtav folder, deleting/reinstalling dx files from system32, using window borderless, - blah. Even deleting settings.xml from mydocs/rockstargames/gtav has the potential to fix this. None of this rules out hardware degredation/power issues/etc (though immediately happening after update moves it down the list - probably more reserved for new users without a history of the game functioning properly), mods, corrupt mods, leftover mods, etc.

Small update - literally began experiencing this 2 days ago on my gpu.
(caused by hardware getting old/degrading - now fixed - same gpu, story for another time)

(this does NOT mean it is the only fix or that you stop after doing this one thing -.-)
For directx- reinstalling it over the top of possibly corrupt/incorrect versions don't always work. Use a janky .bat file I wrote from this link --- it will move the files to backup folders for you - make sure to exit steam, rightclick the .bat and run as admin.
(yes, you can rightclick/edit the .bat - to look and see what it does -.-)

After you've moved them with my .bat - install directx again from the websetup - making sure to rightclick/run as admin. (from steam/steamapps/common/gtav/_commonredist/directx/2010)

I'd suggest a pc restart - but some users report it working immediately after.

With the exception of more permanent steps like reinstalling drivers, and necessary directx/game files - the... the others could be viewed as more temporary workaround/fixes. Requires most testing after other updates, driver updates, os updates, game updates, etc - including any other shenanigans in the future, etc -.-

What does the eventvwr crash report say? Does it point to a specific file? gpu driver? dx file?
