Yes, now that you have a decent size without much fame I believe you should make this a private group. As you start getting into the clan system people will want to send spies on you. This makes it much easier to keep them out, yet not impossible. Call me for Counter-Inteligence if you need it.

If Readbeard doesn't come back in a few weeks we could have a disaster here, assuming he never comes back. Redbeard is the only one who can pass leadership and without a leader this group's founder preferences are practically useless. No one can change the avatar, ect.
Somthing has to be done quick before this group falls apart. There isn't much I can do at the moment, I don't know REDBEARD very well, but all I can do is keep an eye out.
