MDGG, MacGamerz, and the future

2008 was hella long ago.

Yet, that's when this group was created. It enjoyed moderate success, but really took off when 3 other group members and I decided to make it official. In September of 2009, the McMaster Digital Games Group was formed. This group's numbers jumped through Welcome Week recruitment, and we were able to still run weekly game nights throughout the year.

Now, none of the founding admins are still at McMaster, and the group has quieted down in terms of events.

I've been approached by Eric (Grog N Muggles), who has started up a spiritual sequel to the MDGG called MacGamerz. As a way of revitalizing this group, MacGamerz will be running their events here, posting their news here, and promoting this group on campus as their home base in the Steam Community.

That being said, this steam group is not student-exclusive. If alumni want to get together for games nights, be sure to let me know as I'm always interested in shooting old friends (or new ones!).

I'd like to congratulate JMan because one of the items he submitted to the Contribute page has made it into TF2.

The item is a badass wrench replacement that gives you +30% construction speed but -25% damage. Check it out on the TF2 wiki here:

Hey everybody!

I just wanted to let you all know that since 3/4 of the exec have graduated and our efforts to produce heirs (by biological or other means) have been fruitless, the MDGG as an official McMaster club is dead. Like MJ dead.

However, the Steam group will live on! Invite your friends! Pulverize your profs in TF2! Terrorize your TAs with your one-three-three-seven Hunter skillz in Left 4 Dead 2!

Oh, and MDGG will remain the tag because it sounds good.

Final notes: the domain registration renewal is coming up for mdgg.ca and I won't be paying the $20 so all you domain name squatters out there can start hitting f5 to see when it disappears.
