100 (and one) recommended games and 500 followers milestones

It's been over two years since I posted the 50 recommended games milestone announcement, but here we are, finally at 100 (and one) recommended games! A big thanks to all of you for following us and for caring about those little gems we love so much, that unfortunately often evade the spotlight of the video game press. I also want to thank our new member Zyro for picking up the slack I left off and getting us to where we are now.

Some exciting new things have happened to the curator system over the past few months. The curator page now has better options for filtering recommendations, and it finally feels like a more integral part of the Steam store. We have better and fancier tools for monitoring impressions, and the list feature, which was temporarily available during the winter sales, is now back.

We only experimented with this last feature so far, but some exciting options are to either put old reviews on rotation for greater visibility and/or have lists of member picks where some of us could list our top 10 favorites, or something like that. We're open for suggestions.

Another new thing is that developers can now send us games which any of the members with the right permissions can accept and add to their Steam library. The same guidelines apply to these games as any others, of course, so we will still not write a recommendation unless we think a game is a good fit for this group.

One thing that has become more noticeable with the new filtering options is that there are genres we don't cover at all. There are also more and more games that I think would be to our tastes that we simply haven't gotten around to, since there's only a few of us and way too many great games for us to cover. What I mean is: We need help! So if you want to help us play and recommend games, please let us know.

50 recommended games milestone

After more than a year in operation, Hidden Linux Gems has finally reached its first major milestone of 50 recommendations. We also have almost 200 followers, which I feel is a pretty good number for a group recommending mostly niche indie games for Linux users. With more than 1600 Linux games on Steam, we're bound to miss many gems though, and because we're naturally drawn to the genres we most enjoy playing ourselves, there are likely huge gaps that we need help filling. That's where you can help, since we have a discussion topic where you can suggest games for us to take a look at.

One of our group officers, BlaXpirit, has recently started a group called Linux Quality Outpost, which is looking for members. The main purpose of this group is the curator, which highlights games with problematic Linux support and points out potential workarounds for issues when a solution exists. In addition, this group will also curate games which have Linux support, but aren't labeled with a SteamOS icon on the Steam store front.

No Tux, No Bucks is another group which is recommending several games we like, and also serves as a support group for anyone needing a reminder to stay off of Windows games. They are a small but enthusiastic bunch, and would surely appreciate more members.
