@ waldo, if ur still around, there is very little you can do, except as you say, back up so you can see the rockets. However when you do so, consider switching to your flare gun and taking a few pops at him while strafing/hopping .

The fire usually panics lesser players and can tempt him into firing at you on your terms. then you can reflect rockets at him when hes at his most vulnerable, and the fire may finish him off if he manages to limp away.

If he still wont shoot, keep landing easy crits with the flaregun against that slow lumbering target.

Hey, I have around 400 hours on pyro total (wiped them about halfway through my total playtime for some reason) and have one question: How do you combat soldiers who use the tactic of not firing untill you airblast because you mis-predicted? Is there anyway to counter that besides backing up to a distance where you can see the rockets coming?

Thanks for the response! I'll keep that in mind. As for the new Soldier RL, is it possible to reflect all 3 rockets? The most I can get is two of them. It's not all bad news because I've found they're basically sitting ducks if you attack them from behind.

Usually go by the rocket (most are slow enough to see coming from a distance). This becomes an issue the closer you get to the soldier, so that's when you must anticipate based on animations and the player's tendencies.

Hi there! Aspiring Pyro main (nearly 100 hours) here. I have a question about reflecting rockets. Do you find it better to go by the the rocket itself or the soldier's animations?

hmm.... it seems odd not keeping the engie on straight defense but ill keep it in mind when consulting my team, if im running my preference i will for sure be going degreaser, shotgun, and then theres the decision between homewrecker and axetinguisher, thanks everyone

That's the strat that we've used. Mid control is important on turbine. Your position is going to depends on your engie. Some are better than others at defending themselves. If your engie is getting harassed quite a bit, then consider running the homewrecker and going back and forth between him and mid. Otherwise, if you have control of mid, stay with the combo. On turbine pro, you have to pay special attention to the "banana" (at least that's what my team calls it) area, as it's a favorite for flanks from demos and soldiers.

pro or not aside, couldn't you just have your Engi run Gunslinger and then stick with the combo yourself? And if you get control of mid, regardless of melee, stick him on the crates and that's half your Spy problem gone due to the time it takes to walk up to the stairs and jump around there and all that

Turbine, or turbine pro? I'm not even sure what the engie should do on turbine pro, we tried a ton of strats last season and nothing really worked... On regular turbine, it honestly depends on your team and your engie. If spies hassle your engie, then definitively stick with him, if your engie generally doesn't get stabbed when nobody's around him then you might want to consider sticking with the combo. Shotty and flare gun are fairly equivalent, try both out and stick with your preferences.

if anyone has tips for ctf turbine highlander? I assume i will be engie-sitting but are there times when i should transition to offense? also what would be a better defensive secondary for my loadout, i main with the shotty but i cant help but think the flare gun would be more efficient in this situation. thanks for the info

Definitely stay with the combo. Besides everything listed below, you will also be used to counter incoming ubers. Protect that medic, don't let him drop uber.

What are your main issues? Overall you should be staying with the combo (or gun on defense), reflecting away spam headed to the combo, and shutting down the enemy spy.

Hey, anyone got some tips for Highlander Pyro? I've got a small HL tourny coming up I'll probably be Pyro-ing for half of.
