Verdun is currently the gold standard for trench warfare. I am very excited for BF1 for several reasons.
1) Variety - I can lay mines, drive a tank, fly a plane, shoot and scoot on ground, or come up behind someone and shank them. (bf3/bf4) (both have this feature and I highly doubt they are going to leave it out of the new game).
2) BF Graphics are amazing. Some of the best graphics on the market and in the WW1 setting.
3) Its WW1, we have enough WW2 and Modern/Future Shooters.
4) The trailer showed many weapons including trench club, shovel, sword.
5) Riding horseback looks like a very plausable option in this game. I want to ride into battle with my sword drawn for maximum epicness.
6) Verdun can get glitchy and servers crash. BF series does not have these problems.
7) Machine guns are not OP In BF4, the MG is very inaccurate and takes several hits to kill someone. As much as I love Verdun, the MG is way OP (even after the update).

BF1 will only help Verdun. People will buy it, get hooked on the WW1 weapons, and want to play something more realistic eventually and they will find Verdun which will be much better as time goes on.

But we should defer judgement for now. I'm not gonna jump on the hype train based on a carefully crafted 90 sec trailer that gives you no real idea of what the gameplay will be like. I'm not gonna sound the death knell for Verdun yet when we don't have any reliable data what both the active playerbase and the potential players might favour.

Well, it's all nice and shiny. But in the end BF1 is just another BF with a WW1 theme (and maybe a few gameplay mechanics that will be a novelty for the series). It will not even be remotely realistic. It will be fast and arcady. It will probably be a good game (maybe even a very good game), but also very expensive. And EA will milk the cow with a flood of DLCs. But BF1 caters largely to a different crowd than Verdun. So both games can and will coexist. It is possible that BF1 might draw some existing and potential Verdun players. But it might also serve as a point of introduction to WW1. It might ultimately send players to Verdun who crave for a more hardcore experience, more realism or smaller infantry skirmishes.

Yeah, apparently the NA team had not enough (committed) guys. So that was the consequence. I'm in talks with the guys now to see how the team can be re-built and strengthened so that they are ready for competition again in season 2.
