Means 1 of 2 things:

1) You have not got the client for steam open. Open it and run idlemaster.

2) You haven't got all the idlemaster files in one place. To correct this, go back to the zip file and extract all of the files into 1 spot. Then open idlemaster again, making sure steam client is open.

This. You'll be fine, just don't actually join a server until you turn off idlemaster.

If you got the game as a gift or bought it prior to it becoming free-to-play you will get a number of cards via idling as a consolation for having obtained the paid game.

If you add it to your library as a free game then it will drop 1 card per $$$ spent in-game via microtransactions. The exact number varies from game to game and you'd have to ask each game forum how much it is for that game. I only know the ratio for TF2 which is $20 (as in if you spend $20 buying items you get 1 card dropped for free).

There's no risk of playing non-VAC games while idling (or playing VAC games on non-VAC servers).

I do not know if there's any risk to VAC server play, not had the courage to try.

This has nothing to do with idlemaster. It's steam-end and nothing that can be done except run the program until it is finished.
