None of them got VAC banned for it.

There's no input for actions, which is what is needed for VAC to detect you as "Cheating" and you actually CAN run multiple games at the same time. You're going to have a difficult time playing them both but it's doable (I once confused my friends a LOT because a game of mine glitched and told steam it was still running...leading to my game status flickering between the glitched game and my actual game for several hours until someone asked me to please stop spamming them). Valve isn't going to want to ban people for something which can happen due to a glitch in the Steam program.
