Can we turn off Steam input for controller ?
So i am currently playing God of War Ragnarok using steam remote play on my friend's laptop and using a wireless Xbox controller and although the controller is getting recognised by the system i am not getting any input from it in-game. I have tested it works fine with other games so the problem is this game specific.
Found a solution to turn of steam input and maybe it will work .
But Remote play forces steam input in-game . Is there any way to turn it off forcefully?

no
steam input is required for remote play controllers to be sent to the game, since the controller is not connected to the host pc

I know this is an old post, but hope this helps someone. I actually found a work around for remote play. I had a spare Xbox series s controller, plugged it in via usb, and used remote play for space marines 2 on my ROG Ally. I can confirm it works.

I'm not sure I follow your workaround, but I am very interested with how you made it work! Can you elaborate, perhaps with the actual steps you did to make it work? Just to be clear, the controller is connected to the client (i.e. connected to the device that is running the Remote Play app), and not on the host (i.e. controller is NOT connected to the gaming machine)?

begin streaming and check steam input bindings for the controller for the problematic game

steam -> library -> select game -> gear -> properties tab -> controller
select the controller and configure its bindings, or browse default configs and pick one that works

you dont need a controller on the host pc for remote play controllers to work
