So, obviously it has been a while since I did anything with this group. Work has had me busy with various rollouts of code we have been writing. Anyways, I have been play Blacklight Retribution and must say that everyone should give it a try. While it might lag on some systems with DX11, the DX9 version is simply stunning. The gameplay, mechanics, and physics are all AAA title worthy and a great addition to any FPS MP fan.

Oh the utter disappointment of having to play Skyrim in DX10. The lag when turning on AA is ridiculous. DX9 or DX11 would handle this much better. I turned off the ingame AA and used my card's setting instead and got a much better FPS. Unfortunately, there is no way of forcing Skyrim to use DX9 or 11 atm. Hopefully a patch will change this.

I just posted some Far Cry 2 DX9 shots into my screenshots. They are beautiful if I do say so myself. Check out the capabilities of DX9.

Well, I just tried the BF 3 Beta and all I can say right now is.... well its ♥♥♥♥ in my opinion. There is no "ingame menus" their... the ... I honeslty dont know what to say,, it pisses me of tha much. Basicly there is no main menu, or in game or what ever. For you to set up your graphics, controls and whatnot you have to join an actual server before you can set up anything. The graphics how ever are DX11, but I dont see any differnce between BF3 and BC2. The beta is a big dissapointment even though it took me 20 - 40 minutes to figure out what I was doing (trying to join a server etc etc).

For all you crazed zombie killing fans Dead Island is a game worth getting! just for the storyline alone its really great its quite emotional for some side quests and a few of the main quests. some of the things on the island are interactive. You can drive cars throughout the game, and run zombies over if your playing coop with a friend becareful who your driving with you may end up in a tree! so I found out. Theres some good news for those people that live in Austraila theres gore! thats right you hear me correctly, you can go around the island chopping of arms, legs heads its great to play a gorey game after so long! The geaphics are amazingly great, the lighting in some parts of the game for example the sewers the lighint was fantastic the best part is that its a DX 9 game :D Overall it is a great fantastic game that is worth buying 10/10.

So, I am playing through Mass Effect 2. Yes, it is DirectX 9 and simply beautiful. I am happy that some developers out there still see the potential in DX9. I am especially pleased to see games like Mass Effect 2 that do so perfectly.

I am going to be holding a competition with regards to screenshots in the future. Coming around the end of 2011, I will hold a competition for everyone of this group to display the best DX9 screenshot. This means that we are going to vote on the best DX9 looking screenshot from our members and the winner will be rewarded the game of their choice. Some stipulations apply. Check back often for news and updates.

So, I just checked out the new Crysis 2 DirectX 11 patch. My opinion is that EA had it right when they used DX9. DX11 presents so many new glitches and anomalies, that I quickly switched back to DX9. Not only is there clipping in the DX11 mode, but glass in every building flashes on and off and seldom looks like it is actually held in place by a door or window. I constantly see white anomalies around the door glass. It makes the game unplayable. However, after downloading the High Res texture patch and playing in DX9, I must say that Crysis 2 is beautiful. Stay with DX9. It is the most resiliant version of DirectX out. Tessellation is overrated right now. Crysis 2 actually looks better without it and most can hardly tell the difference. Happy gaming.

Just in case you insist on running Far Cry 2 in DX10. Open the console using the ~ key. Then type in 'gfx_maxfps 30' (without the ' ', you can use 35 also). The framerate using DX10 is 10fps higher than that of DX9. However, this means there is a severe stutter when playing since the game is reading 40 while DX10 is playing at 50. So, setting the max fps to 30 or 35 is actually setting it to 40 or 45 using DX10. Why am I posting this? Because I support you right to choose and it is only fair to get the most out of gaming. This group is to support the further pushing of DX9 like in Crysis 2. However, I am not completely opposed to tweaking other DX versions. Enjoy this tip.

DX10 fails again. Was trying to figure out why the FOV in Far Cry 2 would not let me adjust the screen from 1920x1080 down to 1280x720 for better FPS rate without stretching the top and bottom of the screen to the edges. This gave it a very squished feel. Then I switched to DX9 on ultra high and BOOM, fixed. DX10 blows.
Pheist Ewon 2011 年 5 月 30 日 上午 9:53
There are subtle differences. Don't expect tesselation, but your FPS will improve slightly and the light and water effects will look improved. The game must have the DX10 ability. Granted, this will not work in all games, but just a few. I tried this in Far Cry2 and Crysis. Crysis got the most FPS improvement overall.

does that really work i did it on all my games(fable 3 wouldnt start) and im not sure there's a difference.
Nfected 2011 年 5 月 29 日 下午 5:14
that sounds cool. My Gfx card is only DX9
Pheist Ewon 2011 年 5 月 28 日 下午 8:18
Here is a trick if you have a DX11 card. If you have a game that runs DX9 or DX10, choose DX9 and then right click the game in Steam in select Properties. Select Launch Options and type in -dx11. This will allows it to run with the default DX9 options while utilizing some of the DX11 features of the card. You will have the game with high performance, but great lighting, water, and particle effects.

I'm not crazy about rounded edges, nor amazing drop dead graphics. As long as it looks decent then it's fine. Besides, most of my games mainly use DX7+
Pheist Ewon 2011 年 4 月 22 日 下午 1:36
I agree. I really hated DX10. DX11 is not as bad, but is way overrated. Honestly, all it is used for is rounded edges and more water ripples.
Nfected 2011 年 4 月 22 日 上午 11:38
DX9 is just amazing.I think they keep releasing new ones to make more money.
Pheist Ewon 2011 年 4 月 22 日 上午 1:25
Crysis 2 has shown us what can still be done with DirectX 9 and it does so beautifully. While some people complain that DirectX 11 is not available as of yet, I am still in shock at what they have accomplished. They have shown the rest of the industry that DirectX 9 still has the potential for stunning effects.
