https://psteamproxy.yuanyoumao.com/curator/45494755-Censored-Videogames
1) There is a version of the game in one region with more content than another
2) There is a version of the game available from some retailer with more content than another
3) The version of the game currently available has had content removed from a version that had been available earlier
From all that I've seen (which isn't a lot, as there isn't much video available of the western version as of yet) the Japanese cutscenes and the western cutscenes are identical. So I'm not sure if missing nudity from game cutscenes as compared to versions from other media would be fair or not. It's not as though the content was removed from our version of the game; it doesn't exist in any other version of the game, but it does exist in other media.
1) The cutscenes do not show nudity like the animated movies do (seems to mostly be in the vein of "artfully and conveniently arranged locks of hair").
2) The west, for the time being, does not have the wet t-shirt Casca costume.
The former seems to be the case for all versions of the game regardless of region, so it's not cut content as far as I can tell. I don't know if the costume was removed because of ratings/PR concerns in western countries or if we'll be getting it later. I'll update the curator in a few days when some more concrete information is available, but it looks like, at the least, the cutscenes are censored as compared to the original manga and anime versions.
Valve has apparently removed the ability to add a curation for a game unless the person writing said curation actually owns the game. This means I would have to support a game that has been censored to warn others that it has been censored, which is not something I'm about to do. Also, frankly, I just don't have the money to buy every game that's been censored on Steam. So, until Valve gets around to removing this change, it's very likely you will not see updates to this curator for a while. Games that I've previously put on the curator will remain there, I just can't add any new ones unless they're ones I own.
Sorry about that.
Well now Steam has added three categories for games added to the curator: recommended, NOT recommended, and informational.
How should I label games added to this curator from now on? Are they positive recommendations, negative recommendations, or merely informational? Or should it be situational (for instance, games with no patch available at all count as negative, games with developer patches count as positive, and games with uncensored versions from other retailers being informational, as an example)?
Why do they do it this way? I have no idea. In fact, it strikes me as absolutely idiotic. But I don't think it's malicious, rather just very poorly coded search functionality.
Glad to have you, by the way! Remember, everyone, suggest games that you think should be on the list! You'll be helping your fellow gamers out.
I had to search for you on Google, even then Steam kept popping up errors: "There was a problem trying to follow the Steam Curator."
I was meaning to join after seeing an article on a similar group in RPS/Kotaku
Curiously, I can't find evidence that TF2 is censored in Australia, though I can certainly believe it from reading about how they treated L4D2. If anyone can confirm somehow that it is (a video or a screenshot of lack of blood/corpses/gibs/etc. would suffice), I'll update the recommendation to include the Australian version, but for now all I can find evidence of is censorship in the German version.
Which is why if you have recommendations, please post them! I'll look into the TF2 and LFD2 censorship and add them in.
Another question: Do you only curate games that have been globally censored or would you also note that a game may been censored in germany but not in the rest of the world?
Thanks in advance for reading my lenghty comment.
I considered adding D:OS to the list, but I decided to draw the line at curating pre-game content, like the belly skin fiasco in Original Sin. At the time, I didn't think it entirely fair to blast the game for its promotional content when nothing in the game itself seemed to be censored (though I could be mistaken on that). However, if enough people would like for that kind of stuff to be included, I'm not necessarily deadset against it.
