I've adored the singleplayer campaign since childhood, and I only ever walked the multiplayer maps offline and alone, but I understand its legendary status, especially considering LAN and Internet café parties and stuff.

YO! absolutely buzzing to see this community, as soon as I stumbled across ya'll I've now reinstalled and got AVP2 and PH up and running with a server now running under my old clan [ISH]/[ISH2].

Hey, I barely pirated this game (mostly because I'm too lazy to actually buy the damn thing again) I used to play it a lot when I was a kid and I had a blast with the singleplayer but I never got a chance to play the multiplayer. so I installed tunngle and I've launched the game through tunngle and it seems when I click on the lan portion of the multiplayer there's no servers, and then when I tried to use the internet portion it says I need a CD key. which I used one from the internet and it says I have no internet connection to the servers. So I'm sitting here pondering to myself, how in the hell do I get this to work? All I wanna do is facehug some peeps or blast the ♥♥♥♥ outta of some bugs but I can't seem to get it to work. Please could someone guide me through this? I really just want to have some fun with a game that I had a blast with when I was a kid.

They're nice enough people. And reply to forum posts within a few days.

No one is forcing anyone to pick one over the other. It's a free market and you get to choose what you want. Anyone who thinks that some guy, that goes under an acronym for who knows what (this boy.... yeah him), has the right to be the sole decision maker as to how the game should play and is the exlusive gatekeeper is sorely mistaken.

Try all options and see what you prefer and stick with it. Just good luck uninstalling all the crap that the modded master server installs on your computer.

Just a to remind people, when the original Sierra-run master server went down, everyone switched to Gamespy. You could at the time join via the Gamespy program ("external application") or join games via an unofficial master server (which was called Savior Mod at the time) made by LithFAQ (Herr Alien and The One). That old master server was built off of Gamespy. When Gamespy went down, then you had LithFAQ running the server themselves. It has transferred hands and is what it is now.

You have a choice now. Play the modded version of AvP2 via the new unofficial master server. Or play default AvP2 using Tunngle or Gameranger. Tunngle is far less laggy than Gameranger so I would advise Tunngle over Gameranger. There are probably other less know ways to play as well.
