I just made this thread with a basic description of several languages including what they are used for. If you're having trouble deciding on a language to learn, you should check it out!

I really hope this group kicks off, I am positive that it can help a lot of kids get into programming. Don't forget to check into the chat room and invite your friends! Tell them why it's important to have these skills. Technology has already shaped the now, and it will continue to mold the future. Don't let your friends think that learning to code is extremely difficult or only for geniuses, they don't have to do it alone!
