The new Ace Combat entry is leaving me with a bit of an itch that needs scratching.

It might just be my nostalgia talking, but does anybody else feel that earlier entries in the Ace Combat series could use a remaster for PC? From Ace Combat 4 and onward, the textures do not appear to have aged that badly, and I'm fairly certain that veterans and newcomers alike would enjoy the simpler, but well-written campaigns.

I started a forum post on Ace Combat 7's discussion tab titled, "Any chance for Ace Combat remasters" if anybody would like to chip in their .

I'm also really hard to please when it comes to horror, too. It's got to be very particular and honestly, a lot of the time I like a horror story for what it doesn't do almost as much as for what it does do. So it's a distinct possiblity that I'm just super picky when it comes to these things.

Yes, of course. The game is great. I didn't want to dismiss your impression of the game. Tastes always differ and recommendations are subjective. But the weird thing is, I bought the game mostly because of the story. ;)

Absolutely, and I think that's the game's biggest strength, is that it deals with abstract but very real issues so many people face in interesting ways. It's just that, from a story perspective, I didn't get much out of it. I almost would have preferred if the dev had just thrown the story away because each one ultimately feels inconsequential. To me at least. IDK. different strokes, but at least we can both agree the game is good.

I like the fact that there are different interpretations for the "clues" you put together throughout the game, so the different endings make sense to me. I don't really feel the need for a canon since the game is very much surreal and talks of the personal experience of the developer. On an emotional level I am touched by this game and can very well relate to the topics explored in it.

I didn't like that the endings varied so much that literally the story is entirely different depending on the ending. The reason multiple endings work in, say, Silent Hill 2 is that the overall plot is intact regardless of how it ends. It always has That Really Big Twist and the story is far more satisfying because of it. Neverending Nightmares, there is no "canon" because who all the characters are in relation to the protagonist varies wildly depending on the ending. And to be honest, there's rarely much story development regardless of which path you choose.

I'm not attacking this game, because I firmly believe it's absolutely worth playing for the visuals and freaky but subdued atmosphere. But I personally did not think the story itself was anything special.

I wouldn't call the story of Neverending Nightmares "♥♥♥♥", not at all. But that's just my opinion.

Also, I can't remember if I suggested it already or not, but there's a game called LISA: The Painful RPG that is a must play for fans of great storytelling. Truly one of the greatest games I've ever played, and it's my favorite indie game ever. Link:

I second Neverending Nightmares. Story is ♥♥♥♥ but the atmosphere, tone, art style etc. is all great. Buy iton sale though, you can easily get all achievements in like three hours.

I wanted to recommend the game Neverending Nightmares for you to try out. It deals with very serious topics, the level design and the gameplay perfectly capture it. The art style is very interesting.

I figured you guys might be interested in the game OVIVO if you haven't seen it yet. It has some really interesting level design that allows the whole level to be a piece of art. I did a review on it recently.
