Recording stopped following an unknown error
Hello,

I’m experiencing a strange issue with the Steam recording feature, and this is the first time it has ever happened to me.

The problem occurs only once I am in actual gameplay, not in menus.

Here is what happens:

When I start a video recording from a game’s main menu, everything works normally.

However, as soon as I enter an operation or mission (in-game gameplay), the recording cannot be started again, and steam displays an error message ("Recording stopped following an error")

Even more confusing : when I press X to open the Steam Overlay right after the error, the interface still shows that a recording is active, even though it has actually failed.

I have now tested this with two different games to verify the behavior :

- Space Marine II : recording works in menus, fails as soon as I enter an Operation.

- Call of Duty: Black Ops III : recording works in menus, fails as soon as I enter Zombie mode.

So the issue appears consistently only during gameplay, regardless of the game tested.

Additional details after checking online suggestions :

- I am recording to an NVMe SSD
- I have 400 GB of free space
- I am not running Nvidia ShadowPlay or any other screen-recording software at the same time

It has always worked perfectly for me, so I’m having trouble understanding why it suddenly fails during gameplay.


My hardware and software configuration :
- OS : Windows 11 Home
- CPU : Ryzen 7 9700X
- GPU : Intel B580
- Ram : Crucial DDR5 6400Mhz
- Motherboard : Gigbayte X870I AORUS PRO ICE (Rev 1.0)

All the latest updates regarding the OS, Steam client, motherboard, CPU and GPU have been installed.
