Game Recording – Severe Audio Distortion (Even With Normal Volume)
Hi everyone,

I’m having a big issue with Steam’s new game recording feature — every recording I make has extremely distorted audio, even though my system and in-game volume levels are normal.

The first time I noticed it, both the game audio and my microphone were completely saturated in the recording.
At that moment, I had “Automatic Gain Control” enabled and the setting “Record audio from” → “Entire system” selected.

For my next test, I tried recording without my microphone plugged into my headset, but the game sound was still distorted.

Here’s what I’ve tried so far:

- Disabled Automatic Gain Control
- Changed “Record audio from” from “Entire system” to “Selected games and programs” (I checked Steam Client WebHelper and Discord)
- Tried recording again in different games — same result
- Tried with and without the headset connected

The audio keeps clipping and distorting no matter what I change.

Setup:

- CPU: Intel(R) Core(TM) i9-9900KF
- GPU: NVidia GeForce RTX 4070 Ti
- RAM: 32 GB DDR4 3600 MHz
- Headset: Audeze Maxwell
- OS: Windows 11
- Steam version: Stable

Has anyone else run into this problem? Or is there a workaround to fix the recording audio distortion?

Thanks in advance for any help or insight!
