After few more tests, I think i found something. By disabling GPU accelerated rendering, the in-game overlay is working perfectly again regardless of the game resolution. However, the smoothness of Big Picture is reduced when I'm not in-game.
It appears that there is an issue with GPU accelerated rendering. When it is enabled, Big Picture functions correctly, but the overlay is unusable at high resolution. On the other hand, when it is disabled, Big Picture is slowed down, but the overlay works perfectly.
The original BPM did not have this problem. The issue was introduced with the BPM redesign.
I haven't tried disabling GPU acceleration yet but I will today.
I've been struggling with this for ages.
What is your hardware like?
I'm on an Intel 12600k, 3080ti gpu, and 32gigs of ram. And I play on a 4k monitor and the lag makes the in game overlay pretty much impossible to use.
Maybe something related to Nvidia drivers ?
My old config was I5 13600kf, 1070ti and 32go ram.
I only switch the gpu.
Thanks for the info. Maybe I'll mess around in the invidia control panel or something.
System > Display > Graphics > Change default graphics settings
Set Hardware-accelerated GPU scheduling to off
Restart computer
I just tested this. Ran BG3 and it is smooth as butter. (Well at least as smooth as new BPM can get)
Thank you for sharing this!
Disabling GPU acceleration made the big picture main menu unusable for me
The original workaround of disabling gpu scheduling didn't work for all games. Seemed game specific depending on how intensive it was.
I just tested your solution and it's working great. Nice find 👍👍👍
You are the god now
Finding this now in 2025 and it worked for me as well
I legitimately am lost on WHY this works though, it doesn't make ANY sense. Steam already uses the Big Picture UI if you launch a game via BPM, why on EARTH does enabling this suddenly make it stop performing like garbage?
