ISSUE:
Steam reports incorrect version to windows/registry.

This in turn causes CIS benchmark failures out of the gate based on incorrect version reporting and mismatching vulnerabilities.

OS:
Windows ANY

STEPS:

Have steam installed.
Assume default install location.

In CMD run....
(Get-Item "C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steam.exe").VersionInfo
(Get-Item "C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\uninstall.exe").VersionInfo

View Steam version under Add or Remove utility

RESULTS:
Add or Remove Utility reports 2.10.91.91

This seems to relate to
Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\WOW6432Node\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall\Steam


EXPECTED:
Add or Remove Utility should report current steam version, not the old version/uninstall file version

NOTES:
Steam client updates seem to reset this registry entry if it were to be fixed manually.

POTENTIAL FIXES:
Update the registry version when steam updates to the client version.
