I just realized that DOI is still on the INS workshop. Would it be easier and faster to extract the models from that mod than from DOI standalone? Also, Crim had retextured the Kar 98K, STG 44, G43, BAR, Thompson, and Garand in case the original textures were too ugly to use.

Hey Daimyo, could you give a quick look at one of the guns to see how much work it would take? Can it be the Thompson? If so, can you crank it up to 11?

Not really a big fan of importing DOI guns. Maybe STG.. we will see. Just dont like the idea of having too many old weapons in and how well they are going to work with vanilla attachments etc... We will see. Not a priority.

Also the scaling of shotgun rounds per ammo rig is pretty much nonexistant. If your primary is a shotgun and you choose ammo rig #3 you should get a hell of a lot more rounds than 56. You get like 600 rounds of 308 with the MK48 now so I'd expect like 300 shotgun rounds at least.

We can tweak this a bit, but shotguns are substantially larger rounds. I'd like this to be discussed in a separate post to get more feedback on this, balancing(added weight, etc.), limiting certain rolls to have it maybe.

Looking closer at each model, I'm throwing my vote behind the sawed off Toz. The Ithaca doesn't have a right side ejection port, making empty reloads look wrong. The 870's barrel looks a little too long for a sawed off.

RGD-5 suggested stats:

Rational for these changes are smooth design is likely sturdier and reduces larger fragments. RGD-5 is lighter than the F1 so I would increase the throw speed but I'm not sure how that RocketStartSpeed stat scales.

Rational for the decreases in damage and radius are because demo charges are designed to be precisely placed and detonated in sequence. These types of explosives have a slower blast wave, meaning they are not designed to fling shrapnel. Also, I imagine any improvised detonator would be slower to use. (Note: I'm trying to increase range for throwing overhand more than underhand toss, hopefully I got it right)

If you were going to port over any DOI guns I honestly would recommend a British weapon. The Brits have an extensive period of involvement in the Middle East stretching back over a century. Surplus arms and ammo abound throughout the region due to their continual presence. Plus, instead of having to add older/obsolete ammo types, you can use rounds already implemented seeing as these old guns were often modified and converted. Lastly, a lot of these guns were retrofitted over the years to mount modern attachments and accessories, not to mention the "bubba" modifications done by locals. Of course I think you could just skip over making most attachments work as the British Military's experience led them to issue weapons already refined (through many iterations) and well suited for combat. Of course that's my two cents and I would be happy for anything at all.

Thanks for valuing my input on these matters. I really should learn about modding one of these days. Then I could do all the legwork myself and add 10 guns every week! :steammocking:

I refuse to buy Infinite Warfare
COD is a testament to the "Bandwagoning Effect". I had no idea about it until after the the group I played games with stopped buying COD every year. Years ago, my Xbox 360 broke and I was unable to buy a new one (thank Gaben I saved my money to get back into PC gaming). Without me the group was less interested in COD, and was waiting until I got another 360. When that didn't happen, the cycle was broken and we haven't played a COD game since the first Black OPs. Basically if someone in a group of friends buys a COD game, it causes others to not want to be left out and they buy it too.

The saddest part of the COD story is the reason it existed in the first place as an offshoot of MOH in a attempt to make a more realistic and deep game. However after the massive success of MW (and lackluster sales of COD3), Activision wasn't having any of that. Much like all the yearly EA sports franchises, yearly COD entries dropped tremendously in quality and actual new content.

We had 100 plus page paper manuals (you know, made out of the same stuff as the box... nevermind) for "light simulation" games and we loved learning about the deep mechanics! None of these pansy, hand holding, hours long tutorials you get nowadays. We just had 15 minutes to learn the basic controls (which was redundant since games also showed the controls on a separate piece of paper) and then the rest of summer to learn how to actually play. You would fail and wonder why, fail some more, say "forget this" and leave. Only to have an idea pop into your head hours later, try it out and fail again. So you would whip out the manual and understand what was happening and why your decisions conflicted with the game's mechanics. After that you would beat the first few missions and then get your ass handed to you when the missions start requiring you know the rest of the mechanics before you could advance.

Back to the manual again until you are practically dreaming about reading it in your sleep. Suddenly, you yell "Eureka! That's... what I... was missing..." right before the realization hits that the decisions you made in this save fucked you over beyond all repair and you need to start over. It doesn't matter, you got it this time and start a new save. Months go by while fully exploring the game and you glean all the fun you can until the devs announce a expansion that almost doubles the size of total content. You smile and wait for release, which is rewarded by another playthrough of a game you love with new stuff, bug fixes, and another manual.

RGD-5 grenade - Maybe lower damage but a larger blast radius?

Demolition charges - Throws further than C4 but less damage and blast radius.

There are 3 sawed off shotguns I found on the workshop that I think could fill a role as 20ish HG, 4+1 or 3+1 capacity, with no slug or tactical buckshot option. They are the Sawed off Toz, Sawed off Ithaca 37, and Sawed off Remington 870. Best suited as back ups for long reloading belt fed MGs as you can keep topping the shotgun off until you have the time to reload your primary.

KS-23 - Russian 4 gauge riot shotgun. If possible, and if it won't make the server lag, make it fire three 12 gauge shells at once so no extra shell types are needed. Downsides are weight (IRL same as a Scar-H which translates to around 50 HG) and low capacity (3+1 even though technically it would be 12+3) are the trade off for raw power.

This next part is just about updating existing weapon models.

M93R has a proper model now.

G36C with proper animations.

Personal preference but this Famas model would kick ass as a replacement for the current one.

IMHO the VZ58 never really made sense to me, especially now with the older wooden version. Perhaps a AK-12 (AK-15) would be a good replacement model?

Lastly, the Saiga is still using the old AK animations.

Ive been hoping for a model of p90 for some time but cant seem to find anyone who can. the guy who ported all the call of duty stuff may be able to I think his name is Venom in the workshop. I really hope he can bring it over. would love the gun to make an appearance on Sernix. it would be my "go to" secondary everytime unless made primary and still would choose it everytime. it would require a new model and new ammo I think.

Well the Five-seveN made it so maybe the P90 is not too far behind.

This last one... I can't even type this with a straight face. Sawed off Mosin Nagant, for when you need to kill the enemy of Mother Russia and light all your comrades cigarettes at once.
