Detecting Hackers

SNP got its first hacker on Sunday, August 28th by the name of Neoflee (http://psteamcommunity.yuanyoumao.com/id/tristonreysen/ ). The punishment of using hack programs is a permanent IP ban, as well as his/her's associates to be banned too (not ip ban). This action is to further discourage hackers from coming back to the server if they ever change their IP address such as using a VPN; because the hacker will lose interest if his/her's friends cannot reenter the server. However, associates met in game will not be banned (being strangers before joining the server and forming friendship).

How to detect a hacker?: Pm me, or email if i'm not in game if there is someone who is consistantly getting landing his shots without miss, especially if they land in the head ( 30m<, more than 30m is difficult to land headshots with assault rifles). I will investigate the accused on my end and make a decision. The hack commonly used I'm aware of (I won't name because I'm against advertising it) has features that can make it difficult to detect. Here are the main features:

1. It can see all entities in a rectanglular box such as a PLAYER, a hidden small stash, even dropped weapons. This means the user can toggle his hacks off when I'm flying towards him because he can see me and does so to avoid suspicion.

SOLUTION: Allow me to collect more data by going face-face with the hacker with a head and body protection--to make you more durable too gain insight on how many times you're getting shot in a period of time (double head shots? Didn't miss a bullet?). The deaths are recorded in logs with the distance and area of the body last shot before death, and weapon used. This will allow me to better judge the accused of hacking or not when I'm using the logs.

2. The program can allow you to set angles, distance, and area for preference. This means the user can set how much he has to aim at the rectangle in order to get his preferred shot (he can aim 0.5m away from the body and the program will still automatically make the user shoot his target). The user can also set how far away the program can apply headshots before it automatically sets the prioritization to body shots--making it difficult to detect the hack (e.g. hacker headshots anyone who is below 30m while he's aiming his sights on the rectangle, and body shots anyone who is farther than 30m. This most likely won't be the case as headshot settings are set higher--below 100m)

SOLUTION: If someone is accusing in public chat, ask the person how many times he/her was shot in the head/body, how fast he/her died when encountering the hacker, and if the accused missed any shots. Tell me what the accuser said in PM, or over email. Addionally investigate by engaging the hacker and encourage a battle like in solution 1 to collect more data. Usually the hacker will resort to hacks if he sees a group of people

Depending on distance, around 50m and above, you can "zig-zag" and dodge the hacker's bullets because of the delay in bullet impact, all while hearing bullets go by your head by the specific sound.

Other data you can obtain: shift+tab in game->click 'View Players' at the bottom right, look at the accused's profile.

APPEALING INFORMATION: Is the profile private?-prevents obtaining data below and is suspicious.

How many hours has he played Rust? How many in other fps games (e.g. CSGO--people who excel at this game most likely excel at Rust and may be good as a result)- Low hours and high skill is a good indicator of someone using aim-assist.

Decent amount of friends? Low friend count tends to mean the profile is new.-Wants to protect main account.

How many games and how many hours? Low count of games that haven't been played mean the profile is new and wants to protect his/her main account.

INVESIGATE: An expose video by DooM49 ( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iHs1h-xszdc )establishes what precautions hackers use to make their accounts more "legit".
Nutshell of it:
-Hackers go afk to gain more hours in games.
-Spoof expensive CSGO items and scam for real items of interest to make the account more valuable.
-Know when to toggle their hacks on/off
-All of this makes the hacker less suspicious for usage of hacks because the accuser will most likely think he's a "lucky" legit player since the logic of the RISK of losing his items being higher than the minor OUTCOME of winning gained in using hacks, and concluding a valued account wouldn't risk using hacks, since detection means losing a good amount of money.
Overall, be wary of someone's hours, and inventory in Rust.

REQUEST EVIDENCE: Anyone who wants evidence can request and I will gladly post screen shots of the logs, PMs, and witness statements.

Every Dog has his/her day and may get lucky kills consistently. Don't accuse someone right away because he/she gets a 200m headshot, or is difficult to kill. They can be naturally good, and/or have a lot of hours dedicated into fps games and Rust. There are good players such as bchillz ( http://psteamcommunity.yuanyoumao.com/id/balrogchill1https://www.youtube.com/user/TheChillFamily/videos )
or trausi ( https://www.youtube.com/user/trausiyt/videos ) who get accused of using hacks quite frequently.

I feel these cover the majority of problems and solutions with hackers.
Thanks for the read :)

-Liquid
