United States PO3 Tyris Franklin Leslie Jr., affectionately known as “T.J.”, 28, passed away Monday, Feb. 6, 2017. Born in Rowan County on Jan. 29, 1989, he was the son of the late Tyris Franklin Leslie, Sr. and Kimberly Holt Denning, who survives. T.J. was a graduate of West Rowan High School and attended Mitchell Community College. He was currently serving in the United States Navy. In addition to his father, he was also preceded in death by his maternal grandmother, Betty K. Holt; and paternal grandparents, Harold O. Leslie and Dudley B. Leslie. Those left to cherish his memory are his mother and step-father, Kimberly and James Denning; two sisters, Kristin C. Leslie and fiancé, Christopher Hinchee and Pearl E. Leslie; maternal grandfather, G. Elvin Holt; nephew, Joseph E. Hinchee; step-nieces, Elizabeth ad Chelsea Hinchee; aunt and uncle, Kathy and Grover Holt; and aunt, Sheela Holt; and numerous cousins and friends.

I have made this clan to keep a memory Tyris played in all of our lives.
