1) competitive teams have reviewed our demo from last night's gpit match. read what they have to say;
2) we have some pre-match notes on Turbine. Keep these notes in mind as you practise in lobbies this week.
cheers!
BTW if you are looking to get better at your TF2 class, read this forum tread. They have amazing tips. I have only read the first two pages, but the comments and tips are excellent.

Confirmed with Tinkelp that there is NO SCRIM TOMORROW. Go have fun, live life, have sex
As usual, I'll be there early to tour the map. Come if you can! We'll need at least 15 to 20 minutes to go through the map because it's ENORMOUS.
Great work last night! As our win record improves, we're going to be matched against better and better teams. Get ready!
3) We were too cautious. Again, I take responsibility for this one, since I emphasised staying in position and not dying during the pre-match tour. When we had the advantage (e.g. Tinkelp's banner was up) we should have pushed in HARD and taken their platform. Instead, we let their engineer build his sentry in their spawn and then cart it out over and over again. He also had some creative placement which made it hard for us to break the sentry.
---
ALL that being said, last night's match was one of our best. We communicated well, had solid teamwork and made jokes about Amazonian women over Mumble. The first three rounds showed us how just some simple organisation can catch the enemy completely off-guard. This was one of the more organised teams we've played against, and we pulled through splendidly.
Next week:
We're playing Coldfront. This is ANOTHER standard competitive map, and it's our weakest matchtype - 5 Control Point...
For future matches, I'll have backup strats ready - I promise :(
2) We let the enemy spy run all over us. He didn't get much done on the main group (our pyro made sure of that) but he would constantly get stabs on people venturing out to point or coming out of spawn.
As a career spy, I can say that checking your back every two seconds is useless. You need to concentrate on the fighting in front of you. Better ways to deal with spies:
- always be moving;
- shoot everyone;
- don't move in linear and predictable patterns. Like, don't go back and forth over and over again. The spy...
Special shout-out to Awesome, who continually updated us on the state of her uber ("I'm almost ready, I'm up.") This is important for the rest of the team to know, so we can push in. Tinkelp and Persian also made it clear whenever we were on the point.
Things we needed to learn from last night:
1) We had a plan and we stuck to it, then the enemy wisened up. They specifically targeted our shelf and pushed us back to spawn - and then our plan fell apart.
I'll take personal responsibility for this one. We went through what to do AFTER we had the point, but I didn't specify what the backup plan was. I remember someone saying "Guys, we're really disorganised right now", and that was spot-on. This cost us two solid rounds and we were beginning to lose morale.
In the sixth match (the one right after the break, where the score was 3-2), we were again being pushed back to spawn even though we didn't have that long left on the point...
We had another great match last night, winning 4-2 against a team who were organised and good sports all round. Viaduct is a compact, violent, fast-paced map and I'm glad that we kept up the pressure to the end.
Things we did good:
1) We had a plan and we stuck to it. Everyone showed up early for the pre-match tour and learned the plan we "formulated" (read: stole wholesale from actual competitive team). When the match began, we stayed in position and won the first three rounds very cleanly. I'm convinced that our superior positioning and teamwork gave us these victories.
2) Comms were the best they've ever been. The decision to add class names to Mumble was an IMMENSE help (especially when you need to say things like "I'm down.") Everyone called out enemy targets and used the right terms for their location (e.g. "enemy soldier, on OUR cliffs.")
The location terms are important because they allow us to be consistent and everyone...
4) We kept losing the second point (spire) because their demo and soldier kept jumping up there. Francis and Tinkelp did their best though, and we got them off it quite a number of times.
Great things we did last night:
- Our communication was consistently solid. We coordinated pushes and holds, bbob was constantly moving his stuff and telling us where he moved it.
- That means our teamwork was good. I think good teamwork trumps individual skill hands-down.
- We had a lot of fun.
Next week is Viaduct! Also another bog-standard competitive map, with a lot of close fighting. I'll be there early again to show people the positions, just like last night, so come in 15 mins early if you can!
Great work last night. It was one of the most fun matches we've played.
1) Our run to mid is really slow. The other team consistently reached the midpoint before us and that always results in us taking a defensive stance early in the match.
This isn't optimal but the only way to reach there faster is to rocket/sticky-jump well. Consider having the medic heal the demoman while the soldier uses the Equaliser to move quickly (just hurt yourself in spawn at the start).
2) The enemy team had a good spy and he was getting more backstabs in than we should have let him. We need to watch out for this one; I've seen some matches in which the spy runs roughshod over the enemy team and it's really downhill from there.
Radiocarbon didn't get backstabbed often at all, though, and we managed to backstab their medic quite a number of times, so the ubers were in our favour.
3) We spycapped them three times. That should remind us that we also need to be vigilant, we were spy/scoutcapped once and it was maddening.
Ep plus did
As you may already know, we won a very close fight (5-4) on badlands last night. It was a great match. Sorry to the people who couldn't play! :( We were 2-2 in the first half, 2-2 in the second half and won basically by tiebreaker.
We played a good match. Our soldier and medic were taking down the right people, Francis backstabbed a million people as the scout, Ep Plus did a really good job as heavy and saved our last point from backcap more than a few times. Shinoobi is an ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ bodyshotter as well as a headshotter and I saw him take the medic for a ride. Bbob had great engy positioning and was constantly on the move with his gun, and communicated well with the team. Our pyros (shaimus and nihon) are riots with the flamethrower.
