So is there any way whatsoever to get players AT ALL? ALso, some maps are ♥♥♥♥♥♥ and they make the server almost unjoinable until restart or something.

The South American servers have a 999 ping and never lets me join. The only active ones are customTF and megaTF. No Vanilla TF :(.

You can check the server browser in the multiplayer section of the game menu (ESC). There's usually always an active server, but it's probably a south american TF server or quake dm server.
