Was a little kid when I saw my first arcade machine of it at the YMCA and some teenager got so far in it the fruits were coca colas and Bella and stuff.
I do think that Ms. Pac Man is a better game overall, but I've only been able to get up to the fourth 'red' maze and never past it. Moving fruit and changing mazes was just what the original formula needed IMO.
I've also played some strange modded arcade machines of the Pac Man games over time. I don't know how they did it but one for example had Ms. Pac Man moving wicked fast (maybe 5x the normal move speed). This was obviously way before Internet and hacks (I think?) but it was a lot of fun.
