Confogl Fresh: a short lesson of history and the official changelog.

The original Fresh config was released back in the beggining of 2011. It was a step forward from Confogl 2.2.2.

Yes, to those of you that don't know: the term "Confogl" does not stand for competitive L4D2 as a phenomenon. It used to be a config, just like Promod and Equilibrium. Today, however, it is more used as a specific technical framework/API, on top of which the modern competitive configs operate. All competitive L4D2 configs ever created are derivations of Confogl, one way or the other. The only exception to this rule is the SRS Mod project, which has never received significant public acclaim.

By modern standards, "Fresh" can be objectively appreciated as extremely outdated. Compared to Promod, it features the unmodded Hunting Rifle(one per team) and no SMG limit, plentiful pills and adrenalines, 3 throwables per map of each type, gas tanks and canisters, and lack of numerous, long-accepted map adjustments, bugfixes, enhancements and many other gameplay metas of modern competitive L4D2.

Do I really consider Fresh a good competitive config for today? Definitely not. By modern standards, Fresh cannot possibly serve as a tool for objectively establishing the better team. The average skill level of 2015 is wildly different from the year of 2011. Lack of gameplay fixes, abundance of health items, throwables and the overpowered Hunting Rifle aid the weaker teams in clearing SI and Tanks and making saferoom. This can contribute to the possibility of one successful Tank round or choke spot exploit to decide the outcome of the entire game, and allow the otherwise better team to lose -- a phenomenon typical for vanilla.

Regardless of my stance, I do appreciate diversity. One fun tournament amongst tens of repetitive Promod tournaments won't hurt anyone.

Veterans of competitive L4D2 might notice that the changelog for Fresh 2k15 is nothing different from Fresh 0.8, which was the last officially released version of Fresh, back in 2011.

Now, the changelog! Compared to Vanilla, Fresh features:

No medkits and defibs
No T2/T3 weapons
Limit of 1 Hunting Rifle per team
One molotov, one pipe and one bile bomb per map
4 pills in the starting saferoom, 4 pills and 2 adrenalines on the map
Tank spawns on every map, at the same spot for both teams
Spitter acid doesn't inflict damage inside the elevators of Hard Rain 2 and 3
Spitters are excluded from the SI class rotations during tank fights
SI friendly damage is blocked
Weapon/Item spawns are invisible to the infected team until they are visible to survivors
Lerp tracking
Bunnyhop is blocked
Tweaked map distances
Health bonus
A few minor bugfixes
