Valve is going to re-introduce paid mods. Can you believe this chit? :o

I was shocked by the amount of people defending that disaster. I suppose they figured that it was their entry into the video game industry or something.

We won this round. Yay.
26. Apr. 2015 um 6:44
did anyone ever think to just take the mods that rip off other games/movies, putting them up on the servers and charging for it, then finding a way to slip those companies info that their product is being sold by valve and they arent getting anything from it? The legal side form that would snowball so hard on valve it would end. They cant remove the mod without refunding everyones money, they cant leave it up due to a lawsuit, and they cant delete it from all games due to hacking issues.

Why does everything that's cool always have to become ♥♥♥♥!? PC gaming was really starting to take off, mostly because of mods and graphics. Nobody would be playing Skyrim today if it were not for mods. I fear that this is going to succeed against our will. Modders want to get paid, and publishers need an endless army of DLC makers. It's not a MOD if it costs money, it's DLC!

...continuing.

Actually, I want Valve to add a "Donate" button to transfer Steam Wallet money to the map creator's Steam Wallet (beyond the pay feature)! A great incentive and a way for map makers to receive recognition! Less ♥♥♥♥♥♥ things on Workshop! Isn't it good? Mods aren't all paid, actually, if so many people are claiming it to be free, how all mods will be paid? Specially on Workshop, where most people are only mild designers or children with great habilities?!

Sorry for the big text, but the reaction people had with this feature is completely unrational is stupid in my eyes, if you disagree, please give me reasons and facts, I will be stay in the group until then, so we can have an organized discussion!
25. Apr. 2015 um 0:49
Ok, first of all, for better discussions, make the comment section available for everyone. Discussions with people who already joined have like 99% chance of being biased.

Secondly, some indie developers that can charge for their decent modifications and fan games but can't pay for Greenlight (since people like you spammed it like ♥♥♥♥ so now publishing things on Greenlight requires a 100$ fee) aren't in anyway a bad thing. People charging for mods aren't a new thing, see Aperture Tag, it is an amazing mod (almost its own game) and I don't regret paying for it.

Continues...

5. Modding is something one does for fun, to improve upon a game or make it to their taste and gain experience - If you want to make money you make standalone game like DayZ went from free mod to expanded version of own game, that's the right path to go if you’re in it for the money.
6. And final, First pay for dlc, now mods? What’s next? Rent games and pay for patches since its coding too? We need to maximize profits, why sell a game once when you can charge em 5 times for it and additionally for each piece of new content ever touching the game?
24. Apr. 2015 um 15:45
1. Modders have nothing to do with the game, no rights, they will never be fairly compensated and their work will always belong to the devs. You putting a swag hat on Mona Lisa painting does not make it yours.
2. It's the one and only thing in gaming today that's not about money…
3. Mods tend to die and get broken by patch since no communication between the devs and thousands of modders. And since it’s not a company but a guy doing it for lols you deserve to lose your money.
4. Due to all that, donations and alike to support what you like from selection is better than paying up front and has worked better.
24. Apr. 2015 um 11:48
I think all mods have to be paid. :stahappy:

Guys we have to agree that Good Modder do deserve money for their time. However, I do not beleive it should be left up the the modder to decide if the mod should be paid for. The community should decide for partnered mods. this should be decided by voting or by shear number of downloads(by different accounts obviously) and then the mod should be like 1.99usd and aong that line such as the system used for tf2 content. this will ensure that people get what they pay for and that good modders get some sort of reward for their part in furthering the pc gaming cummunity.

Thanks for the invite, will fully support this.

Been praising valve for over six years... For the first time... I'm ashamed to own a steam account. Paid Mods.. Thus ends the last remaining thing in the world of gaming that's NOT about money. Gaming as we know it is dead. For those of you screaming praises, there will never be a fair compensation for their work regardless as they work on foreign property they have nothing to do with and no rights with.

Slutty it !!:Burn:

Now Valve ♥♥♥♥ all !!

I will never pay for a mod through steam.

Happily going to go donate to some mod creators that I love now.
24. Apr. 2015 um 3:53
I can say that this update is good. Why?
1. It allows for developers to control their income. Their mod is too bad on P/P wise, it won't sell good. Their mod is too expensive, it won't sell good. It's not something you should worry about.
2. This definitely won't affect games like TF2/CS:GO, because they require approval before being published.
3. This will put more quality work in the workshop, and since the people who make toy bonnie ♥♥♥♥ on GMod will probably turn their creations to paid work, and thus gain no profit.

Velve just stirred up a hornet's nest :shooter:
