opting into the beta worked for me. had to change back to directx8 and redo all my graphics settings, so make sure to peek at that before you play.

Fred I can't speak for others, but the opt into beta on steam settings worked for me. As of right now it appears you may have found the problem. Gonna place the info under possible fix methods in case people fail to notice your comment.

Go into Steam settings, and under account, press the beta bar and select "Opt into beta".
Something like that.

anyway I have made this my primary group on Steam until issue is fixed. Left a comment on my main profile page directing people this way, and willl drop link in a few of the threads concerning problems with tf2.
