Keeping Left 4 Dead Alive and Strong!

Left 4 Dead: Apocalypse is a set of projects with a common goal - Improve Left 4 Dead and keep it alive and strong! Started in July 2010, Apocalypse Mod has grown significantly and expanded into multiple projects. Since the release of L4D2 left the original Left 4 Dead stuck in an unhealthy state, Apocalypse is a project to help unite the community, and to continue to polish and improve the game.

Apocalypse Server Mod Features:

The Dynamic Director - An improved, adaptive AI director system with a sense of humor to ensure every playthrough is different

Dynamic Finales - Courtesy of the Dynamic Director, finales are never predictable

Apocalypse Versus - A more balanced versus set in Apocalypse Mod for both casual
and competitive players to enjoy

Custom Items - Flares, Ammo, and Trip Mines to bring more fun to the apocalypse

Lighting Modifications - Because day time is no time for zombie killing

Chattermod - Works to add more communication and chit-chat between the survivors

More gore - Because zombies don't stop at a single lost limb

Apocalypse Tanks - Fire immune, bodyshot-resistant, and angry as hell. No
frustration timer in versus.

Tanks and witches are vulnerable to explosives of any kind

Survivors have no glows to see through walls, and can crawl when incapacitated

Weapons are balanced to all be equal - no more tiers

To force your game lobby to play on an Apocalypse Server, use the "mm_dedicated_force_servers" command in your console. For example (without brackets):
[ mm_dedicated_force_servers 209.247.83.136:27015 ]

You can also connect directly with the connect command:
[ connect 209.247.83.136:27015 ]

Apocalypse Mod 0.1.6 Released

Hey folks, just a quick update this time:

This release fixes many outstanding server crash and disconnect bugs. It also contains a bit of code cleanup and fixed some non-critical error messages from clogging up server logs.

If you're running Apocalypse on your server, please upgrade at your convenience - it'll make your server crash less. Upgrading is the same as installation - just copy the new build files over and overwrite the existing files.

The release is available to download at https://github.com/lucaspenney/ApocalypseMod - I'll be updating the Apocalypse website to reflect these changes.

Apocalypse Mod 0.1.5 Released, New Server Available

Hey folks,

Today marks the release of Apocalypse Mod 0.1.5. The Apocalypse Mod L4D1 server project has been migrated to GitHub, and there will be some ongoing code refactoring and performance optimizing in the future. The project is not in active development, but I'll be performing ongoing maintenance to ensure there is always a working Apocalypse server available and fix any outstanding issues. If you encounter any reproducible server crashes/restarts/errors please create an issue on the GitHub project.

I've also created some detailed installation instructions in the readme, so server admins can install the mod with relative ease. It's as easy as downloading the build folder and following the instructions. If you're running Apocalypse Mod on your server, please let me know and I'll add it to a list on http://ApocalypseMod.com/.

Additionally, I've set up a server running stock Apocalypse Mod. As usual, you can force your lobby to connect to the server (if it's available) with "mm_dedicated_force_servers 75.155.213.210:27030" (enter in game console) or connect directly with "connect 75.155.213.210:27030". To the sane people who don't want to type in console commands, you can now click a link on the sidebar of the Apocalypse Mod website to load up the game (if not already open) and connect for you.

That's all for now folks. Apocalypse Mod is now over 4 years old, having first being publicly playable just before the release of Left 4 Dead 2. There are newer projects ahead, but we must never forget the old ones!
