Nah, it's not dead - people still request and make grids.

People don't talk as much as they used to in chat - but you can't force people to do things they don't want to do - i'd be more happier if people hung out in chat when they were online even if they didn't talk as often - at least they'd be around if a conversation broke out about something interesting. I'd have that rather than nonsensical spammy chatter.

It's only as dead as people make it to be, really.
