How To Counter Crash-Bots!

Hi Everyone,

As you may have heard (or experienced), there is plague of crash-bots attacking TF2's servers. These bots will join a game and then ddos it, which causes the server to temporarily crash. However, if you type-in "cl_timeout 1000" into your console, you will be able to rejoin the sever. This is because the bots will normally ddos the server for ~25 seconds, which is the amount of time that cl_timeout is normally set to. Therefore, increasing its value allows you to overcome the ddos attack.

Creators.tf and Cool TF2 Loading Screen!

Since this announcement covers two different topics, I have divided it into two parts.

1. Creators.tf
For those who like playing TF2 and enjoy workshop content, I recommend checking-out this website [creators.tf]. Once you login, you can access their TF2 servers, that contain workshop items as well as vanilla content. Also, their servers are well-moderated for hackers and lag-bots, so your experience should be hacker-free.

2. Alternate Loading Screen
For those who like retro TF2 content (and who don't use the "-novid" launch option), I recommend taking a look at the following custom loading-screen [gamebanana.com]. It replaces the current TF2 loading screen, with one that was intended for TF2's launch in 2007.

TF2 LAN Tournament!!!

TF2 HUDS

Hi Everyone,

Due to TF2's age, its default HUD can feel outdated and bland for modern gameplay. However, with the help of the following sites, one can update the default HUD into a masterpiece:

1. http://huds.tf. This website allows you to choose from hundreds of custom HUDs for free. There are fan-favourites like; FesHUD[huds.tf], BudHUD[huds.tf] and RaysHUD[huds.tf], along with many smaller ones like FlawHUD[huds.tf] (the one I use!) and 7HUD[huds.tf].

2. http://cfg.tf. While not strictly a HUD-dedicated website, this website allows you to easily generate config files for TF2 that can affect your HUD's appearance. By using certain config files, one can get live ping/networking data and information on FPS.

Play "Retro" TF2 With Unused Content

Hi Everyone,

Over the past year, a very dedicated group of TF2 fans have created a Source game called Pre-Fortress 2. This game fully recreates the version of TF2 shown in the 2006 trailer! It does this by including certain unused weapons and game-mechanics that were removed from the final release-version of TF2, as well as retaining old features from early versions of TF2. Some features that were cut from TF2 pre-release include:

1. Grenades . Every class has them just like in TF Classic.
2. Retro Muzzle-Flash Animations
3. Cut weapons like a Nail-Gun for the Scout

The game also retains mechanics that veteran TF2 players will remember. These include:

1. The Pyro being unable to airblast
2. Not being able to haul buildings as Engineer, along with the Sentry being the only upgradable building.
3. The Pistol functions as a true semi-automatic weapon. It shoots as fast as your trigger finger. (HINT: Set your "fire" button to scrolling on your mousewheel for 1200rpm pistol spam :P)

Finally, in order to optimise performance for modern systems, the game supports up to 4K resolution-monitors (no need to play in 900p like in 2007 :P). The game also supports custom launch-options, which can greatly improve your experience. If you are interested in using custom launch-options, this video does an excellent job at explaining them.

If you are interested in downloading Pre-Fortress 2, this video does an excellent job at explaining how to install the game. I have had a blast playing this game over the last 24 hours: I would love to see some of you online!

Gaming Under Attack! Your Help Is Needed!

Dear Fellow Gamers,

As you may have heard in the past few days, DayZ has received a "Refused Classification" rating, despite being previously rated MA15+ (not even R18+!). This occurred after the game was resubmitted for reclassification, which was necessary in order for it to be sold in brick-and-mortar shops.

Given these events, one might believe that the banning occurred due to an increased gore/violence level; however, it was banned for an even-more ludicrous reason! The reason, according to the wankers at the Australian Classification Board, was because an in-game file (this feature has not been implemented, btw) was found which relates to "Cannabis". Allegedly, this was enough of a reason to ban the game, as if the feature WERE to be added it may "incentivise drug-use".

If this is true, then the Classification Board are hypocrites, since GTA V has plenty of drug-use and yet, was passed with an R18+ rating. Therefore, I encourage you to please sign the following petition directed at the ACB to reverse their decision.

Upcoming TF2 Tournament!!!

On 07/08/19, a TF2 tournament will be held called the Hydro.tf event. This event will be a highlander match on the map tc_hydro. Hi Everyone,

A few days ago, I was made aware of a new type of scam involving fake "pending bans". This type of scam involves the scammer tricking the victim into believing that they are going to get banned due to a "pending ban", with the scammer then tricking the victim into handing over items or information in exchange for not getting banned. If you ever receive such a message, even if a screenshot is provided which shows a person "flagging" your account, do not respond to it; as it is a scam.
