mesh/hat imports sideways and covering face, rather than on head
I've gotten the mesh, textures and lods to all work. one obstacle in my way... position.

i've retraced my steps and no matter what i do, it stays this way. ctrl+a in blender did no help, rewatching the tutorial gave no clues, does anyone have an idea?

The bone is rotated weirdly. My only advice here is to start a fresh scene, import a fresh scout model rig (make sure to set the smd/dmx importer to Y-up), and then import your hat and re-rig it. This is just a bone rotation problem, and the only way to solve it is to make sure the original scout rig is correctly rotated.
