Duplicating Bones

For some reason, when I shift-D, create a duplicate of the character's bones, and then press 0 then enter, it doesn't show the new model in the list of objects? Also is any of the material in the 2.5 tutorial outdated

Without doubt, a lot of that material is outdated. You can definitely check out my new tutorial though.

But you said in your new tutorial that the 2.5 tutorial explains the hatmaking part in greater detail, so do I make the hat with the 2.5 tutorial and then switch to the newer one when importing things?

Oh yes. Definitely. I thought you were going to try to use the old one for everything. The old one describes the modeling process in much greater detail. When it comes time to compile, use the new one.
