Imported animations cause model to become huge and messed up.
If that's not the case, then you somehow import animations for models that are not suited for the animations. Like import fbx model then smd animations, that might not gonna do well.

If there are metric or inches measurements enabled, switch back to stock units

find one smd that works. Open it in text editor. The format structure is simple you would probably figure it out by just reading it.
