Haven't done much with Goldsrc, But I had similar issues back when I was making the Alyxgun mod and rendered it into the game. From what I recall, it was a bone coordinate issue, where the compiler was overflowing with too many bones locations in a single area. I believe my compile was some thousand lines long, and so I ended up splitting it into 3 different compiled scripts. May help, but I'm unsure.

Are the skeletons the same and in the same sort of pose? Because what I'd recommend doing is simply choosing one skeleton and trying to get all of your animations to function from one reference. I don't know too much about all of it either, and have only recently managed to get my reference.smd functional and working globally for all of my animations.

UPDATE: My bones were reverting to their "Rest" position when switching between modes. Only way to fix this is to adjust rest position to best fit desired position as "Rest" position is what the reference smd uses apparently. Sort of interesting.

So, after finally getting my rig perfect, I realize I've animated 17 animations for the past few sort of working rigs roughly 3 times over. That's a lot of animations, and some of them i'm really proud of. My question is, can I use these animations with an updated reference SMD? My guess would be no because the skeleton and coordinates for each bone have to line up and match, but if I can reuse my animations and go back to adjust them for my new model i'd shit myself from the sheer amount of joy i'd experience.

It's actually funny. I'm really sad I missed your post because I ran into a similar problem.

The .VMT has to have the exact same name as your random material from Blender for the game to register it, and from there as long as your .VMT specifies via the "$BaseTexture" and "Bumpmap" commands the filenames it should use for textures then you should be all set. As long as the texture files in the folder have the same names as the ones specified in your .VMT, tuduuuuh. As far as I can tell, (and I could be wrong) your .VMT is the only file that has to have the same name as your material in Blender.

Oooooh thats interesting. I didn't realize the Origin was the determining factor to relative positioning. I thought that blender simply specified cartesian coordinates to each bone and relative face and that is how the game engine decided positions. That's pretty funny. Dude thanks so much.. Hey there everyone!

Man, I recently got into source stuff and I've been having a blast. I'm making a custom mod currently and everything has been going well. However, I lately ran into a problem exporting my model with my hands reference smd's.

When I compile my SMD's and everything looks good, I load them back up in Blender using the smd import to check on them and make sure the compile came out correctly. SO APPARENTLY my hands will be in the right place along with their bones, but the gun attached to the hands that was previously IN them is out of them now. Like.. why?

I can't find any answers and it has happened twice now. Not quite sure what to do.
