Note: already posted on facepunch but I figured I'll post here as well as more people know stuff about shapekeys/flexes

I posed a ported model, which has flexes, as close as I could to a TF2 character, but the issue now is I can't set its rest/reference post to be this current pose.

Trying to Apply Pose as Rest Pose fails as the mesh doesn't update to the new pose.

Trying to apply the Armature modifier in an attempt to fix the above issue also fails due to this error:

Is there any workaround I can do (such as a plugin)? I must keep the shapekeys, so deleting them is not an option. Seperating the head is also not an option as I have adjusted the head/spine bones.

Actually they are all in SMD format now (I got someone else to convert it using an external tool), now the problem is batch importing these SMDs into Blender, as I need to apply certain transformations/bone setups on every single one

edit: sorry for forgetting to mention in the original post, I meant to say batch import SMDs and not .XMODEL_EXPORTs

I have dozens of .XMODEL_EXPORT (Call of Duty) model files sitting. I need to import each one into Blender and then export them into SMD. Is there any way I can batch import every .XMODEL_EXPORT in the folder? Shift + clicking onto each file does nothing and only imports 1.

This would be a first for the Source engine as far as I'm aware. Are you completely certain that that's true? I don't have a Festive Team Fortress 2 weapon, so I can't really test it myself.

Either way... Depending on how the model is supposed to work and how various QC commands actually work, it might be a valid option to use $DefineBone to define all bones before any SMD/DMX references in the QC file, and/or to have a "special" bone-only SMD/DMX (like an idle sequence/animation file) which is loaded before any other SMDs/DMXes, with the wanted bone order, like this:

$Body "BoneOrderThing" "BonesInOrder.dmx" $Body "FestiveLights" "Model.dmx"

Yes I am completely sure, since unmatching bone orders result in the bones being bonemerged to the wrong bone (they are bonemerged by IDs it seems, and not names).

The $definebone trick worked, thanks a lot. That's exactly what I needed to get the festive v_model/w_model to work together with the Scattergun v_model/w_model.

Title. I need the order of bones changed, because of how the merging of bones works in TF2 for festives (both models need to have the same matching bone order) Manually changing it cannot be done, because then the vertex groups get messed up. Any idea on how I can do this?

Not directly that I know of, as from what I know, the materials are listed in the SMD in the order of the first triangle to use them. This means you can possibly indirectly change it by duplicating the arm mesh and then remove the original arm mesh, but again, you can't directly set it, so it can't be relied on too much.

However, you can easily do something like -

$TextureGroup Skins { Weapon Arms }

- in the QC file (at some point before loading a(n) SMD/DMX with the materials) to add a "Weapon.vmt" material and then an "Arm.vmt" material (without necessarily adding multiple skins to the model in $TextureGroup), so the "Weapon.vmt" material is embedded into the model before the "Arm.vmt" material. This has worked in the case of someone wanting to layer copies of a mesh over itself in a specific order for a Source FilmMaker model.

Is there any way to change the order of the materials in the SMD? For example I have a weapon with a gun texture and the arms texture, I need the gun material to be listed first in the SMD because this model is for a plugin which overrides the first material in a SMD. However the arms texture is overriden as its first on top of the list. I tried moving the gun material up in Blender but it didn't work.

Any way to do this?

So I am fixing up some of my old TF2 weapon mods from 2009. These are rigged onto the Valve biped and have custom animations. The problem is they are a v_model so I have to convert them to use c_models. Anyway, I am running into a problem with the armature. The armature is organised like this:

0 "Bip01" -1
1 "Bip01 Pelvis" 0
2 "Bip01 Spine" 1
3 "Bip01 Neck" 2
4 "Bip01 L Clavicle" 3
5 "Bip01 R Clavicle" 3...

I need to remove the bones Bip01, Bip01 Pelvis and Bip01 Spine. However, upon removal, the skeleton loses its rotation and position and becomes a mess. So my question is, how do I remove these bones without the skeleton moving or rotating? (Basically making it stay in its place after removing the root bone)
