i finally overcame my fear of the HL2 Barnacles

i still cant stand the HL1 ones though.

For some odd reason, I find the HL1 barnacles terrifying but the HL2 barnacles are bearable.
I think for me it's the rate they pull you up and the sound that they make that unsettles me.

To be honest, I'm not the type of guy to remove barnacles from the game just because they're scary, but while I was swimming on "forget about freeman" I got caught by a barnacle for the first time.
Actually shaking right now.

I am very happy to find this group. I am relieved to know that I'm not alone having a phobia on these damn ceiling monsters.

@A-Tech, no, WE SHOULD HAVE A MEETING IN GMOD, SPAWN BARNACLES, AND BURN THEM! BLOW THEM UP! USE EVERYTHING IN OUR POWER TO REMOVE THE DEVIL CREATURE!

And it's out! This mod covers the base game (HL2) and the episodes. I've tested through and so far it's all good, but expect a minor UI glitch where the captions aren't correctly scaled w/ the UI, but I say it's a reasonable tradeoff! No more barnacles or the tiresome ent_remove_all hacky stuff.

Simply drag & drop the files into your HL2 folder, overwriting everything. It also goes without saying that no other mods should be installed.

Introducing the Long Awaited Barnacle-Free Sequel (TM)! Tapioca Pudding asked if this is possible in HL2, I went around investigating and after some effort I was able to remove the barnacles:

This is the first encountered one, normally there'll be a bird there which will get eaten for touching the barnacle's tongue but since it's removed, the bird can fly freely now.

I hope I can be able to get it out by tomorrow. Still needs some further testing though, I haven't tested the episodes yet but they should all be gone (but to be sure though!)

Hey people. This might be too late now, but I made a small modification to completely remove the barnacles from the original Half-Life (& its expansions, too!), thus rendering all the barnacle replacement mods unneeded. Simply extract the zip archive into your Half-Life installation, overwriting some files, and you're good to go. Mods/people w/ post privileges, if you see this post, can you please maybe make a post or something so more people can see it. Thanks!

I am unsure. I actually discovered an old thread (2014!) from one of our members stating they played through Half Life 2 by using the "ent_remove_all npc_barnacle" command in console. Would this work on Black Mesa?? (If so I would totally play it)

is there a mod where barnacles can be removed in Black Mesa (Remastered Version of Half life)

That means that you can literally get ptsd from barnacles

Used to get a bit freaked out from them, after speedrunning the game they are no longer an obstacle.
