Arsenal chief Stan Kroenke pushing for Arsene Wenger to sign new contract

Arsene Wenger is yet to sign a new contract with Arsenal but is being urged to do so by majority shareholder Stan Kroenke, according to latest reports.

The Frenchman’s future has been the subject of much speculation of late, with his current contract set to expire at the end of the season.

A growing number of Arsenal supporters are calling for Wenger to end his 20-year association with the club, but recent reports claimed he’d agreed to stay on by signing a two-year deal.

Uncertainty over Wenger’s future has seen him linked with the Paris Saint-Germain job, though he has since come out to deny that he’s had any offer from the Ligue 1 giants.

Arsenal are in poor form at the moment with just three wins in their last nine games, two of which came against non-league sides Sutton United and Lincoln City, with fans calling for Wenger to go in last weekend’s 3-1 defeat at West Brom.

Speaking after that game, Wenger said: ‘I will announce my future soon. You will know, and very soon – you will. Don’t think I don’t worry about that.’

Arsenal 2-0 Hull City

Per Mertesacker rose above the Hull defence to powerfully head in the opener from Alexis Sanchez's corner.

Arsenal controlled the first half and almost doubled their lead when Hull cleared off the line.

Hull looked like they had grew in confidence after half-time but tey were no match for Sanchez's sharp turn and calm finish inside 18 yards sealed victory.

The Chilean forward has become our talisman since his £35m summer move from Barcelona and another moment of quality eased any lingering fears of Hull snatching a late draw at the Emirates.

We did lose some rhythm in the first part of the second half as Hull pressed us higher up the pitch. But they failed to seriously stretch the Gunners keeper David Ospina.

England forward Theo Walcott, played 75 minutes on his first Gunners start for exactly a year as he continues to make his comeback from a serious knee injury.

Arsenal began their defence of the FA Cup with a hard-fought and well desrved win as Hull City failed to gain a measure of revenge for defeat in last year's final.
Arsenal 0-2 Southampton

In a whole, Southampton made Arsenal pay for some sloppy defending as Southampton get a 2-0 win to remain above us in fourth place in the Premier League.

Arsenal may have felt they should have been up against 10 men for the later stages as Florin Gardos fouled Sanchez , but he was only booked. Sanchez whipped the resulting free kick over the bar.

Southampton held the Gunners at arm’s length as the clock ticked down, and they saw out a 2-0 victory to beat Arsenal in the Premier League for the first time in 11 attempts.

A very disappointing performance...
Arsenal 2-1 West Ham

Santi Cazorla and Danny Welbeck were on target as Arsenal finished 2014 with a well-earned 2-1 victory at West Ham United on Sunday afternoon.

After a closely-fought opening 40 minutes, the Gunners took control of this fiercely-contested fixture with two goals just before the break.

First, Cazorla dusted himself down to convert from the penalty spot after he had been felled by Winston Reid inside the area.

Then, three minutes later, Welbeck extended the lead, sliding home Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain’s pinpoint low cross.

Cheikhou Kouyate pulled a goal back with a header nine minutes after the break, but Arsenal continued to threaten.

Arsène Wenger had praised his side for the “combination of class and resilience” they displayed in the Boxing Day victory over Queens Park Rangers. This was a similar performance.

Against a West Ham United side that have impressed many this season, Arsenal defended well when they needed to, were not bullied in midfield and had the class in attack to secure an important three points.
Arsenal vs West Ham

Premier League

28th of December, 15:00

Upton Park (Away)

Arsene Wenger knows three points will take Arsenal above West Ham in the race for a Champions League spot and is looking for a second London derby win in three days after the 2-1 success at home to QPR on Friday evening.

Arsenal striker Olivier Giroud begins a three-match suspension after being sent off for head-butting in the 2-1 victory over QPR, but Laurent Koscielny could be back from a hamstring problem.

Aaron Ramsey (hamstring), Mikel Arteta (calf), Mesut Ozil (knee), Abou Diaby (calf), Jack Wilshere (ankle) and Serge Gnabry (knee) are sidelined.

It will be a hard game without Giroud, but we can do it.
Arsenal vs QPR | Review

A win is a win but this performance is still quite worrying. With QPR playing 3 CB's and their wing backs not being able to push up the pitch, we dominated the first half. We won a clear penalty and in hindsight alexis should have let santi take the penalty as his was really poor.

After going 1-0 we were in cruise control with qpr not really showing much of a threat until Giroud stupidly got sent off. QPR got more into the game but couldn't break down our defence and it was a nice counter attack goal by Rosicky. They scored an undeserved penalty near the end of the game but we held on to the lead.

There were positives from the game e.g. holding out with 10 men. However I'm not that optimisitc about the West Ham and Southampton games coming up soon.

My Arsenal MOTM: Alexis

Arsenal vs QPR | Preview

After the draw versus Liverpool and with West Ham and Southampton (both away) on the horizon it is vital for us to pick up 3 points here.

The corresponding fixture last season ended up 1-0 and I can see a similar result here (probably at least a 2 goal margin). I think this because QPR's away form hasn't been great and even though results haven't be going our way we still have a solid record at home.

My Starting XI: Szczesny; Chambers; Debuchy; Mertesacker; Gibbs; Ramsey; Flamini; Ox; Cazorla; Sanchez; Giroud

In the comments please let us know your predictions and starting XI.
