After much work and smashing of heads onto keyboards, Eclipser and I have finally got the mission into a state we are happy with. We'll be launching it up at 9:30 tonight to smash champagne on the server PC and hopefully not watch everything burst into flames.

As with all good tests if you find something off or weird, possibly something you want changed, message either myself or Eclipser and we'll see what we can do, albeit begrudgingly.

A message to all my friends, here in the 57CG.

The unit will fully cease official activity on the following Sunday, 1st July. That said, it will likely be futile to continue it past this message.

It's been a good run and I and many others have worked their ass off for this unit, but everything dies eventually. This is the units end, but not ours.

The 57CG was setup as a community first, that wanted to play Arma together. Disbanding the unit DOES NOT mean disbanding the community. While I don't talk or play games outside of Arma with you guys much, I know many of you play and chat as the community we created, this will not go away. I'm sure.

I consider all of you friends and having met many of you, shared drinks and beds, I know that won't end here.

A huge thank you to Piper, Neon and Cadias for their administration and mission work.

To Scooter, Mega, Mono, Hex and Cecium for creating missions for us to play.

Mike, Matthews, Hobo, Darude and Eclipser for giving up free time to help in various ways. Be it recruiting, website making or making a File Transfer replacement.

Please be informed that our regular schedule starts again this Sunday.

Hi Guys, A lot has been happening over the last 3 weeks for the unit and I hope those who have come to the sessions I have hosted enjoyed them and those coming back to the unit for their fill of arma are also looking forward to coming back on.

This update will be a culmination of ideas that I and members of the Admin and Officer team have come up with to try and give you guys something new (and things that were promised in the new year, new unit update) as a way of rewarding existing players and hopefully a way of interesting new players.

Firstly, something that was promised in the new year were certificates/badges. This is a way of distributing rewards for those who have taken the time to train on those specific skills with a trainer and are given the certificate/badge to show they have done it. We are not limiting the amount of badges you can aquire but we are putting a limit on the specialization of badges. What this means is that although you can be proficient with everything, we feel it would dilute the uniqueness of the units capabilities if everyone could do everyone's role and thus we are putting a cap of 3 on what roles you wish to specialise in. Hopefully this also means less redundant training of things that people already know about, this badge system would mean that a trainer could devote the 2 hours of his time and do 4 badges of training which would allow players to only have to dedicate 30 mins of their time for concise training that only relates to their course and therefore would hopefully help with retention of skills learnt. We will however still have home rotation trainings for either upcoming ops or new skills that the unit needs to learn to progress.

The Second change is that instead of the 3 week period of Admin -> Off -> Training we are changing it to Admin -> Training. The admin is useful as a way for the unit to ask for things and prep mods and do a general cleanup yet from what people have told me and when I asked them about the changes many felt 3 weeks was too long. Please do not think that if you want 3 weeks off you cannot take something like AAR off for the other week or simply tell a member of staff. This is completely fine and we know not everyone is the same. The reason for the Training being the second week is the aforementioned badge system. Countless times have we done training on AT, Section maneuvers and weapon use but we never fully seem to grasp it, I myself have difficulty with certain things sometimes so I know how it feels. However with the badge system it would allow in the training week for people to come to the training they feel they need on the Wednesday and get the badge they need while only taking up 30 mins of their time, then mass attended the Sunday training for general unit training. Effectively this would allow to have a week off then the week of training people would only need to devote around between an hour to 2 hours for that week still giving us the downtime needed but also giving us some much needed re-iteration. Secondly the ratio of admin to player base is around 1:4 I believe so the admin period does not affect everyone anyway.

Thirdly is a rank system to be implemented.
Now I know people in the past have had strong feelings against the ranking systems because of fear of a “superiority complex” affecting the unit, however I believe that the system we have come up with will help to enhance the unit, give something to those who have been dedicated to the unit for a long time and hopefully interest new people enough to stay and mesh with the unit more effectively.

Mono put it best when he said it helps with function and those who are veterans of the game able to help those new.

I need to stress as to put those at rest who have reservations that this will only add a tag to our teamspeak accounts as to keep it tidy. There will be no need for people to put their tags in their TS username such as [Sgt. Com. Xcom. SgtMaj. Spc. A.Piper] (as an extreme example) however we will adpot the ranks ingame as a means of effective organization (more on that later). Rooms will also be kept open which I believe will keep our community feeling strong as most people are free to jump into my room whenever and I know many of you mingle within the TS anyway. Ranks are also not going to be based on your position within the admin team and instead your ability. The only rank you should care about is that of the Administrator team for anything that is causing issues (Officers and Heads)

The rankings will not be based on who promoted whom to what position and who they rule over, instead it will be based on the length of time a person has been in the unit and what position they feel comfortable and capable in.

Private (Pte) - This is the rank you will receive when you have passed basic training and are ready to intermingle within the unit. Hopefully those who are veterans to arma and the unit can help these guys out and show them the ropes within the unit or the way we play the game. Those with ranks above with Pte be expected to answer more questions for those joining :D

Private First Class (Pfc) - This is the rank you will recieve when you have been in the unit for 6 months, the reason it is so high is we hope that if you have been with us that long you deserve to be rewarded and hopefully you have caught onto our ethos and our mentality for the ranking system. Those wishing to join the unit and only see ranks will hopefully be put off by the time requirements.

Lance Corporal (LCpl) - This is the rank you will receive if you have been with the unit for 6 months and are a competent and capable IC or 2IC yet either avoid leading or fill in the gaps when required. We have some very good members already who fit this role exceptionally well and this would allow us to be able to ingame hopefully identify those who could take over if the residing IC either disconnected, was KIA or mysteriously disappear.

Corporal (Cpl) - This is the rank you will receive if you have been with the unit for 6 months and are comfortable and competent at leading a section sized force both as a IC and 2IC. This tag would apply to those who often either volunteer for the IC role or settle into this position often.

Sergeant (Sgt) - This is the rank you will receive if you have been with the unit for 6 months and are comfortable and competent at leading a Platoon sized force, commonly known as 0/. This tag would apply to those who either play 0/1 a lot or are in charge of their specialised force.

These ranks are also accompanied by Honours. Honours only extend to those who have reached Pfc and above and go from 1st to 3rd honours with each honour being give to those who have stayed with the unit for the corresponding amount of time. Therefore a Pfc /w 3rd Honours would be a member who has stayed with us for 3 years and we hope the tag given to them would be something they would be proud of and hopefully the unit proud of them for staying so long and dealing with the rest of us ;).

Honours are lost if you transition role. Such as a Pfc /w 1st Honours who wants to lead would become a LCpl or Cpl with no honours. Again its a way of showing how much experience that person has in that particular role rather than oh they are this rank so they must be this good.

This does not in anyway affect who can play what. If a Pte or Pfc wishes to try out being a IC in a game, let them. There is no better way of learning what you like and dislike than by trying it, however the system is exceptionally helpful in this case. Say we are in an op with a PTE leading and he is downed with a LR backpack, you can asses in the squad who has a LCpl (as was promised in the new unit new year update, ingame rank will be displayed) or Cpl tag, know they are comfortable with the role and allow them to assume command and continue the mission while you perform your role to the fullest. However you should always be prepared to do the job 2 ranks above yourself if no one else is able. Whole squad wiped by a hind and your the only Pte left, you better learn how to use a LR radio and quick :D

Therefore as you can see it is not about this person has a higher rank therefore they must be more important. It is about what you as a player are comfortable and happy with and we wish to reward you for your time with us and give you something to, I would hope be proud of and keep a larger core coming back week after week.

Ranks will most likely be given out by heads and officers as its easy to see on the steam group page the history of members (most of you will be PFC’s and above).

If the ranking system does not work or we notice members trying to “pull rank” it will be reverted, if you notice someone trying to do this please tell a head or officer as these admin positions will always be more important than the rank.

Hopefully this sees a rise of attendance as well as a rise of new recruits as it takes little to no resources on the head side and requires a little time to set up and those in the training team are core members of the unit and so would hopefully instil the ideology of the unit onto them as they go through basic training.

Implementation of these changes should be coming out within the week.

With the above added you can now make a Bundeswehr force aswell as whatever type of spec ops force you wanted, it also has Camo that looks very simmilar to the Finnish Defence Forces Marpat type of forest camo.

I hope everyone is chill with the file size as it is currently. I will try to redcue it in the future to keep it at 30 GB but at its current size it'll be around 31-33 GB and it should stay like this into the future (that is of course unless we do some side ops stuff like WWII etc) so hopefully these changes you may see later into the game. Those who play as AR, you should hopefully see different weapon variety in your hands from time to time.

Anyway, this'll be my last major mod update for a while.
