Steam guard shows wrong location

Whenever I log onto steam on my pc, the confirmation in the mobile app shows the location of the login being a different city in my country, a couple hundred miles away from my city, and is the same wrong place every time, and I have no clue why. Oh and QR codes are broken for some reason, it shows text for log in with qr code, but the entire image is cut off in the window so I can't scan it.

If anyone has similar issues, or knows anything about these issues that could be helpful, I'd really appreciate some input. God I wish I could use google 2fa instead.

I have the same issue and it's still not resolved by Dec 3. Anyone have a fix for this?

Don't think there is any fix, just did a steam update and it didn't fix

. Guess we're gonna have to wait until valve can be bothered to fix it.

Don’t quote me on this, but I remember watching a Youtube video about ip addresses- there are companies that track them, but they can’t always know your exact location, so sometimes they’ll just use certain generic locations (eg if the think you’re somewhere in Canada, but don’t know more than that, they might report that your ip is in the exact center of Canada- or, if all they know is the Canadian province you’re in, the middle of that province). I don’t know if this is just to do with the USA, or just one company or something- but this may be what’s happening
