I was a PC gamer and only played consoles at friends houses and daycare and the like, until I was able to work and save up for a Game Boy and eventually Playstation 1.
Sony and Nintendo's backstabbing put me off consoles and I returned to my roots. Now, the Steam Deck and Steam Machine are becoming what consoles should have been since the 7th generation.
Keyboard on lap and mousepad on armrest are reasonably stable for most games, but super-precision shooters requires a rotating tray for them.
For controllers, I like 8bitdo and SCUF. I don't really need another controller, but the new Steam controller deserves support, since proper PC gaming controllers with the analog sticks where they're supposed to be are kind of rare compared to the utterly perverse xbox layout.
With kb/m on couch or still controller? I guess that’s the differentiation I’m looking for and when people decide to play couch vs chair with what type of games. Maybe it’s based on what you feel like at the time.
I do not make a difference whether the game's an indie or A when playing where. I make the difference based on the controls. Anything FPS, I play on desk & chair (also mouse & keyboard). Third-person stuff generally tends to be better suited for gamepad controls so I play that wherever I want to play. Sniper Elite 5, for example, I play on both couch & desk. On the desk, mind you, I stick with the gamepad because if the game is fun with a gamepad (so it doesn't feel like, let's say, arbitrary difficult due to controls), I might just as well play it with a gamepad either place.
Slow first-person exploration-based games generally work with the gamepad so I play them with the gamepad anyplace. Oddly enough, I play HOGs on the couch. My GF actually likes them as in "she sits in front of the TV with a pointing stick" and I use a touchpad to click where she points at.
There are couch KBM gaming setups in existence, I know. Those are clunky as all ♥♥♥♥ though and if I ever really even consider something that clunky, hauling my ass up to the work/hobby room where my desk stands (and a very comfortable chair) is less hassle.
Good info thanks. I agree I was really enjoying exploration type games on couch on tv. I wasn’t too bothered about frames and cranking graphics up etc vs how I obsess over it when pc gaming. Think it was just a nice change to be on couch and hit go.
I use a Stander Wonder Tray XL
I don't know how well the company is doing, since many models are "unavailable" since the orange buffoon's tarrif ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥.

I have like 3 of them.
I play on a laptop, I sit at a computer desk with swivel chair, I'm mouse and keyboard only, I do not like aim assist that seems to be included with every controller game, I do own a controller, but it's unplugged and only used for specific driving games. I play mostly FPS, but will play other games if I want a break from that genre.

I feel like if I started using kb/m in living room I may as well just go into pc room.
My pc setup uses an Samsung odessy monitor. Couch is just LG tv. Once I get into the ‘pc room’ my brain says you must use optimal things and gpus etc. Sat on couch im like meh turn on tv push one button on console.
Maybe that’s a difference - relaxing vs upright.
Nice idea, and cheap to make too.
I did a different design than that one, though. I got a swatch of mesh fabric so the fans weren't obstructed, and made a loop of it and passed the dowels through.
Eventually I built my own gaming PC and just kept going with PC, forced myself to learn mouse and keyboard, but I still play some games with a controller.
Have you played off a couch as of recent? That’s the kicker. I’ve been pc gaming for about 30 years now in a chair and love it but That sofa hit different when I plugged console in and used controller yesterday. Not saying it’s better just different.
