Anyone else tired of online multiplayer games?
Anyone else just tired of online multiplayer games? For instance, I've put hundreds of hours into Paladins, Overwatch and Marvel Rivals.

But I just feel fatigued on online multiplayer games.

One reason is just the toxic players. For example, in Overwatch competitive it is common for people to say diff or blame you when they lose; even if they did badly.

Second thing and this is more specific to Overwatch; is the sensitive AI moderation systems. It feels like you can get banned/silenced for saying anything OW2. The TOS says you can't use profanity or obscene language; yet all you need to do to permanently be banned is reported enough times for chat.

I get that someone typing profanity or slurs should be bannable; but you can literally get permabanned for less than that.

This only seems to be a problem in Overwatch though. Never received a single warning in any other game.

Third thing is just; the bad matchmaking. One sided stomps seem common in online multiplayer games.

Overall, I just find myself enjoying single player games more. Gaming just seems more fun when you don't have to hear toxic people or worry about getting banned by automated report systems.

I don't play the games you've mentioned, but maybe you need a break and will see the games differently when you return.

I used to play a lot of co-op games, but the griefing got worse so I stopped playing for a while, when I go back to those games, if it's the same I'll continue playing single player games.

My point is OP, take a break and see how you feel when you come back to MP games, if you're still not enjoying them, stop playing them and play something that gives you more enjoyment. Gaming is supposed to be fun, not cause more stress.

Well, there's an unfathomably huge bunch of fun singleplayer games. Or optionally-multiplayer games (so you can enjoy them solo).

I am serious with that "unfathomably huge". My library is so huge, I doubt I'll play all the good ones in it until I retire (and there'll be new good ones until then anyway) and that's a tiny fraction of what Steam got to offer anyway.

Co-operative multiplayer games are an option as well. Toxicity? Less in co-op multiplayer. Oftentimes genuinely none. Matchmaking? It's you & them against the AI anyway so who cares.

I use the mute and report functions. I also don't engage with them.

Your story sounds like you got some trouble yourself, you can mute and ignore toxic players, also, if you play competitive, that is asking for problems.

The most important thing you forgot to mention is cheaters in MP games. That is something that is difficult to stop.

Modern multi-player co-op, absolutely not.
Old-school Doomer shooter deathmatch? Yes please.

Sounds like your exhausted from always competing. I wondered when that would happen in 15 years ago. Here we are

What did you get out of it?
Tezzious 12 月 5 日 下午 2:57
I mainly play on my lonesome these days, no one to play with lol. I just chill with games as I get older.

I don't play those games. I prefer Battlefield 2042 or RUST.
F2P games seem to attract a large amount of toxicity, mostly because it's F2P.

5.5k hours in cs2 for me. Crap game, toxic, not enjoyable any more

Last played April 2025

Then I launched it a month or so ago and I couldn't find any fun in it.

I think its because of the highly competitive nature.

There is also this curve of the more you like and master a game the more you hate it.
I don't mind the banter, memes, trolling and such as much, but where i drawed the line was with all the cheating. Way too many developers that still don't care, dump multiplayer into a game, and then do nothing about cheaters killing the modes.
Stop being competitive, leave aside the thing about wining or loosing, and you'll enjoy multiplayer games again,
I played MP in the past that said I often don't like my fellow players, so I quit playing them

I'm not tired of them.

What I am tired of is the knowledge that eventually the servers are going to shut down on them and I wasted 60 bucks on a game that is no longer fully playable.

That is why I got pissed when I saw single player games being forced to have a multiplayer element in the game.

I wish developers could just go back to making the games they want to make rather than be forced to make certain games because of the thought that it might make more money if it was made to bring in the most people possible.

The wider a net you throw the more people fall through the holes in the net.

Edit: like I saw someone else say not all the online players out there are fun to play with. People play online games for differing reasons, and they rarely make for many people getting together to be on the same page.

In any case I stopped playing them myself because of one reason ... Unreal Tournament no longer is available to play for me.

The rest of them I can live without.
