I used to play a lot of co-op games, but the griefing got worse so I stopped playing for a while, when I go back to those games, if it's the same I'll continue playing single player games.
My point is OP, take a break and see how you feel when you come back to MP games, if you're still not enjoying them, stop playing them and play something that gives you more enjoyment. Gaming is supposed to be fun, not cause more stress.
I am serious with that "unfathomably huge". My library is so huge, I doubt I'll play all the good ones in it until I retire (and there'll be new good ones until then anyway) and that's a tiny fraction of what Steam got to offer anyway.
Co-operative multiplayer games are an option as well. Toxicity? Less in co-op multiplayer. Oftentimes genuinely none. Matchmaking? It's you & them against the AI anyway so who cares.
The most important thing you forgot to mention is cheaters in MP games. That is something that is difficult to stop.
Old-school Doomer shooter deathmatch? Yes please.
Sounds like your exhausted from always competing. I wondered when that would happen in 15 years ago. Here we are
F2P games seem to attract a large amount of toxicity, mostly because it's F2P.
Last played April 2025
Then I launched it a month or so ago and I couldn't find any fun in it.
I think its because of the highly competitive nature.
I don't mind the banter, memes, trolling and such as much, but where i drawed the line was with all the cheating. Way too many developers that still don't care, dump multiplayer into a game, and then do nothing about cheaters killing the modes.
I'm not tired of them.
What I am tired of is the knowledge that eventually the servers are going to shut down on them and I wasted 60 bucks on a game that is no longer fully playable.
That is why I got pissed when I saw single player games being forced to have a multiplayer element in the game.
I wish developers could just go back to making the games they want to make rather than be forced to make certain games because of the thought that it might make more money if it was made to bring in the most people possible.
The wider a net you throw the more people fall through the holes in the net.
Edit: like I saw someone else say not all the online players out there are fun to play with. People play online games for differing reasons, and they rarely make for many people getting together to be on the same page.
In any case I stopped playing them myself because of one reason ... Unreal Tournament no longer is available to play for me.
The rest of them I can live without.
pvp is toxic I recommend link evolution yugioh over master duel
