Lutris sux and hard too!
I this week adventured out into the world of Linux Mint form a life time of windows….I used to wonder why Linux never really caught on in the way that windows did, since this week I don’t wonder about it no more.

It has been nothing but stress at every turn from getting the OS to install on the drive to realizing that the drive is now too small because it wants to drop all files on 1 drive. Then realizing that the drives need to be reformatted which took days BTW, so yes you can use other file formats but only when you don’t want anything to work correctly before the files get corrupted.

Steam works great but, Lutrist and EA, that stress alone made me regret not just buying a new windows rig! When I finally get that ♥♥♥♥ to work properly, the down load speeds make me weep.. what a waste of Base1000T ethernet.

6 years ago I brought my PC from a vendor..now my mobo is at it’s limit, no more up grades possible, just as windows 10 goes end of life. What about extended support you say, would be great if I could get it but I can't since the vendor never registered the mobo and all I got is the default reg.

Of course I tried to register that myself and got stuck because now MSN doesn’t want to let me register the machine again even with my new serial number from the mobo vendor.

Deleted my MSN account some years back because it got hacked and I thought, I wouldn’t need it maybe that would be true were it not for win10 end of life. With that No changing the admin for my machine and yea, I wasted days trying only to run around in circles. I hate Microsoft really. They’re too big to give a ♥♥♥♥..and you can tell. That is never a good thing for the end user.

I switched to mint when win10 issues started popping up. The odd freeze here and there said it was time. I do like mint.
I believe it is a decent product and really decent if you got one big 8TB drive to drop all your ♥♥♥♥ on and steam is the only platform you needed. Anything not supported by steam is in the weeds tho.

Though in truth I have no idea how raid config’s would work using mint. I am already worried about trying to combine some of my drives to make better use of them.

With that said, the base graphic drivers seem better than windows and my GPU seems happy. I use nVida so that 5K comes across more vivid then it did with windows. I don’t know how it would work if you had to use the generic drivers.

For base things it works fine and steam has done a great job integrating their app into the mint climate so all my steam games work great no issues.

Ubisoft works fine as long as I can reach my games through the steam client. If you got EA games not available on steam you can waste a lot of time trying to get them to work.

EA should get it’s ♥♥♥♥ together and do as steam did and make their app Linux compatible standalone! Between wine and lutris that is just a hateful experience.

I was surprised to discover all of the little things window users take for granted and with that mint is still challenging in all of the unexpected places.

That was my rant enjoy.:demoticon:
