It's nothing new. https://psteamproxy.yuanyoumao.com/oldnews/19618
The only thing different is the amount of users on Steam now.
people see they are getting something for free and they stop thinking clearly
the sties that prey on these people seem to be legit so they ignore the warnings
then there are those that scared by the accidental reporting scam
they move before they think it through and come to the boards after they realize it
And while Steam is infested with all of that, their services continually breaking and not working, they dont seem to care very much and seem to think that slapping another warning message on chats is going to do anything.
There has been dozens daily for years. Your brain starts to filter them out once you spend long enough time on Steam Community. Same with feature xyz that has been requested 10000+ times on these forums. It's just your brain trying to maintain your sanity. You'll get used to it eventually.
This in a nutshell.
The average user does not consider the risks involved and will quite happily believe what they're told, click a link and log in anywhere to get what they want, it's only after being scammed that they realise the dangers of clicking links.
The former answers the latter. You have to remember those who were scammed don't exactly have the best thought process with things, hence being scammed to begin with. Take that thought process and apply it to when looking for help. Sure, one could use google and find an answer quickly on how it happened and the results but for one reason or another choose to post here regarding it. As you see there are a few topics regarding it, meaning some of those people also did not bother to read the existing topics that would have answered any of their questions. To answer your question though, they panic and post here instead of research after the scam. You would of course be better off asking those who are posting here as to why they did post, only they can answer that.
