Everyone needs to stop using the term hacked. Accounts are not hacked, but hijacked. Your friend either clicked a link, voted for something, logged into a third-party site using Steam, etc. Hijackers could been in the account for years before they do anything. They wait until the account has something of value to steal.

my account was also hijacked. The hijacker purchased 8 copies of EA Sports F26, then gifted 7 copies of this game to individuals residing in Poland. I have managed to get a refund for the copy left on my account, but is there anything i can do to get compensation fot the 7 gifted copies, Requesting a refund for these has not yet succeeded (and I suspect wont)

If they have accepted the gifts, there is nothing you can do.
