How do I prevent steam from creating short cuts in 2025?

I know it used to be that when you started downloading a game you would get a pop up with some settings and one of them was to not create a desktop shortcut. But for some reason that pop up doesn't appear anymore and my desktop keeps getting flooded with short cuts when I download games. Any way to stop this?

It's is still the same as before, there must be a problem your end stopping the popup. I've just tried installing a game and the popup opens, you can then unclick the create shortcut options to stop them being created. Have you tried restarting Steam/PC?
