Sale Stickers - What's the point?
Came back to steam after a few years, just to discover that the Sale Cards from the discovery queues were replaced by some (non-marketable and non-tradeable) stickers.
What's the point? Were the cards with their 3 cent worth really that disruptive?
Is there any discourse about bringing them back or was this just let happen? Am i just late to the party?
and is there an actual point to the stickers?

The point is that people would make multiple accounts to get those cards, making a business out of it.
You get stickers now instead of cards, it is what it is.

The Autumn Sales never had trading cards.

I think people were abusing them and selling them off site like NFT's. Steam does not like NFT's, so that is why they won't do it anymore. A example of a current game doing this is BANANA.. One of my friends reported people are selling the skins for it as NFT's off site. People will try to abuse any system, and steam wants to prevent this.

You can view the forum posts hinting about it on there too if your interested. Try translating those other languages on the forum and you will see more about it.

It had nothing in common with the game Banana or games like it.

The fact that people were trying to sell the cards as NFT's off site is very similiar. It may not be obvious, but that is what people were doing. SOTS mentioned it before too. The card thing changed the same time Gabe said no NFT games on steam. IF you check the timeline, it is about that time the change was made. Of course steam did not give info on it, as they were trying to not advertise the fact.

Hotsauce, if you can, you may want to read this post about using trading cards off site as a issue from a 2019 post from SOTS:

https://psteamcommunity.yuanyoumao.com/groups/Sentinels_of_the_Store/discussions/23/597408383633655256/

IT also mentions that the greenlight program was also being shut down due to trade cards abuse by people putting trading cards as indie games were just generators for them abusing them too.

If i find any more relevant posts about it on SOTS, ill post more information here for you to read Hotsauce.

NOTE: I am unsure if the link will work as many times if a group is private, the links do not work to see them. Let me know and ill copy the information on here in a post. I also posted many past posts about how NFT is sneaking onto steam, if you want to read them, i appreciate it. Thank you. You can find them on the SOTS posts.

What's the point?

The cards were an engagement mechanic to make people use the discovery queue. Also the cards themselves were an engagement mechanic to introduce people to the Marketplace.

Eventually the people start engaging with those by themselves, so the need for a reward diminishes. Something something, Pavlovian response.

Indeed, only the big sales (Summer and Winter) have trading cards.

True. Only the Summer and Winter sales really gave away cards. But even now, they stopped doing that.

I am guessing they want to sell you virtual items.

They give you some for free, hope it catches on and you start purchasing more of them.

I don't have anything new to add than what has already been posted, but I contacted Steam Support some time ago to ask if maybe a sticker album was being released, I was told nothing planned at the moment. Personally, I'd like to remove them all from my inventory as I stopped claiming any once I got the reply back from Steam Support.

Personally, I'd like to delete them all as I have nearly 2 pages of things I'll never use.
