Game content violations? Was the game an asset flip? Did it have malware in it or is it a front for scamming players?

I need to know what exactly was the issue with the game before I thank Valve for protecting their users?

They always had the rule that any game that contains sexual suggestive content ( does not have to be pornographic) that involves underage characters or a school setting will be declined publication on Steam.
This has happened for many years. Its their platform, they can decide which games they want to allow. Legal or not has no bearing on that.
I personally dont agree with that stance either ( if a game releases on consoles it should also be able to release on Steam, no matter the content) but it is what it is. And Valve has been pretty consistent in refusing games like this in the past.

I'm not deeply familiar with the games in this series or the developer, so forgive inaccuracies.

This is a game where you role play as high-school student and you're a camera nerd/photography club guy. You take consensual photos of classmates and girls from school who pose for you in cute outfits, with at least one of your options notably being an adult woman (teacher wish fulfillment).

The characters in the game are anime inspired with a stylized look. There's no 18+ content.

It's actually not an acceptable situation, not in any way.

The game had a store page and community features fully set up and was set to release in a month. Steam was implied to be trusted by the game company to facilitate the distribution of this game and they are failing to deliver on that. We should probably be demanding a little more transparency in a situation like this. Sitting with your arms crossed is not going to make things better for us as consumers.

You are a steam user. Your opinion didn't matter by default. Private storefronts decide what they stock, period. That is their legally protected right.
