Because purchase history is a critical part of the account recovery process.

Dont play games when you dont know the rules.

Are you going to argue because you have 3 locks on a door that its perfectly fine to give one of the keys away?

Crazy thought. You already have leaked information out there and then you gave them THAT.

If it was completely safe to share private information, why would a scammer be asking you for that information?

It is funny to you because they haven't successfully robbed you yet, they most likely added you to a database for further attempts.

Purchase history does nothing apart from display your account name. Whilst this is an important credential, scammers cannot do anything else with the information such as attempt to recover your account as theirs. Scammers typically ask for this to appear in some sort of authority or to use the information to frame a scam about a fraudulent purchase - they usually use an accomplice or other account pretending to be a Valve employee to make the situation sound more believable.

As they do have your account name though, ensure you have a strong password and 2FA enabled. Also ensure that the password is unique and not replicated with your email.

'Sherlock' has clearly left the building when OP started trying to outwit a scammer and yet at the same time proving to be a PC illiterate by providing security info' onto others without actually knowing how harmful it'll be for himself/herself. :steamfacepalm:

What a treat, ladies and gent's! :winter2019tiredbulb:

Edit add note:

1st hint: Know what you want to say then try to convey it through simpler words. :steamsalty:

"Scammers often try to pose as Steam's support to get you to log into a phishing[www.merriam-webster.com] site and then colect your data without you realising that you're feeding them your security information".
And there you go and with dictionary meanings too, so that you don't get lost. :baa:
