If you post a lot in Short time period, you get hit with that, could last an hour, or so.

Like example you made like 50 post within 10 minutes, it may flag you for that.

I can't remember limit, but I hit this before when I post my holiday greetings each year on most of my friend list.

I think they lowered the limit!

Unless it's counting forum posts too but that'd be dumb because here I am still able to make forum posts.

You can even get around it by commenting on artwork or screenshots but I understand that would require more effort that the dumber spammers & scammers (& their bots) aren't configured for or ready to figure out just yet. So... I guess whatever this "anti-spam" feature is ...it's doing it's job... but it still seems really dumb, annoying, & like they actually lowered the limit.



Pretty sure I didn't make more than 20 comments over the last day - some profiles only 1, others 6, back & forth with the profile owner (not an argument - just civil discussion). None of the profiles I commented on had a profile owner that took issue with me posting there, to my knowledge

(I mean they could just block me (or they could also tell me what they take issue with before blocking me if there was an issue (hint hint ) ...but that hasn't happened for many months, - that being, even getting blocked by anyone after commenting.)

Nah I made 189 comments on a someone profile less than 3hours and I was like at least for half a week without being able to comment lmao. Comments doesn't really work like that I think. When you post 6 comments in a row Steam blocks you from commenting at least 5 minutes to avoid spam but if you post 5 comments and wait 1minute after posting the first and then post 5 comments more and repeat, you can comment infinite. I did 189 almost in a row and I mistake with posting 6 comments so I got limited, but bet If I didn't that mistake I could had keep going. Also I did this to an user I am close to, do not do that to random user maybe steam block you for spam o.o

If they're already on your friend list then you won't hit a limit, I know this much.
Not sure if that's where the 189 posted was for you.

It would be really interesting if it works the way that you say with non-friends, though.
I've been restricted a lot longer than 5 minutes, though.

I wonder if the limit is lower for profile comments compared to for forum posts.

I've sometimes spent way too much time on the Steam forums and I've somehow never run into the limit.

On the other hand, I only very rarely post profile comments.

The profile owner had enough time to respond with fully constructed sentences (& indeed did so) before I continued.

Pretty sure there is like 100-150 limit in a day time frame.

Well it's gotta be the other thing then because there's no way I made 200 comments on profiles yesterday.

I don't know the exact number but I know that for the entire day it must have been less than 50.
I estimate it was around 25 total.

200 for comments and posts combined.

But non-friend profiles is about 10.

There is also posting too quickly in a very short amount of time as if you were using it as a chat.

2023, and I think it's gotten even worse, I commented on someone's profile
TWICE Today, and now I can't comment anywhere anymore.
